I know a local bass player that played on Squire's RM back in July 2013, he said the it was very light with a very high action.

Re: Lets talk about horseys
I'm not positive about this but it seems to me that Squire got most of his tone out of the neck pickup. I can replicate his sound pretty closely with the nick pickup and a pick on my 79 4001, course it has a Sergio neck pickup in it which really sounds great. Yes Bob, you're right. Watch his Star L...

Re: When Did Chris First Go Stereo?
Thank you for your comments! I was thinking about you, Michael, that you could have some good answers! Thank you! I wasn't really aware of Chris option to leave the HS tone always open. I do the same but in Chris' case it's even more understandable since he claimed that the HS had a really weak sig...

Re: When Did Chris First Go Stereo?
I am not sure whether I should place a separate thread but this is related and it has so good content... My question is how could have the Jazz Bass have been wired to stereo. does anyone know how was Chris' wiring? Especially considering there are still 3 knobs there.... How is the tone knob wired...

Re: The Strap
Hello Miguel, I don't remember who made those straps, but I remember seeing them in the stores back in the early 70s. Seems like there would be some somewhere, eBay, Reverb, flea markets, thrift stores, etc.

I like the GHS Super Steels, the ML5000 being my favorites.

Re: 4001CS's On EBay
I bought the CS Serial #45 that had some minor paint issues near the bridge. Yeah, I know I overpaid, but this bass has been on my bucket list for years. I tried buying it weeks before CS passed away, but the Seller wouldn't disclose the reserve on it and kept re-listing it. Anyway, CS's death hit ...

Re: When Did Chris First Go Stereo?
Well, he may not do so any more (and as I've observed, his tracks from Fragile onward all appear to be centred in mono), but clearly, on "Starship Trooper" and "Perpetual Change" at least, the two pickups are coming from different places in the stereo picture. So at least on tho...

Re: When Did Chris First Go Stereo?
Michael, I am finally starting to get the picture. You had mentioned this in an earlier post on this topic. If you read Dane Wilder's post about his unit he created for split signal for mono Ricks (like my V63) , it is sort of the same concept. I gotta ask him about that unit. Yes, Dane's harness s...

If it was mine, I'd make a 4001S out of it, but it's your's, so do what you think is right.

Re: When Did Chris First Go Stereo?
The "stereo" setup is interesting because when you think about it if you select only one pickup then only one amp would be producing sound. Squire doesn't use a "stereo" amp rig. He has repeatedly stated that the reason he wired his basses with stereo outputs was to have the opt...

Re: When Did Chris First Go Stereo?
From what I can remember from reading interviews, Squire used a Vox (I think he said a AC30 TopBoost) in his early years, and also that he recorded with it (I've often wondered if he used it on GttE, because his sound was a little different on that record from the others, but from what I've read, he...
