Re: Spökraket recordings fresh from Cable Hell Studios

A lot of water under the bridge since my last visit here. We've rekeased a full length vinyl, a compilation of jams and a double album since my last post. There's been quite a few line up changes and a lot of improvement when it comes to recording gear. Most of the stuff is tracked on Fostex tape re...

Spökraket - All Art Is Propaganda (album)

Hey guys! Finally we finished our album - the whole thing is recorded in our rehearsal room during spring/early summer this year. Expect a blend of improvised spacerock and messy garage pop. There's a Rickenbacker 330 on three out of five tracks - try and guess which :D Most of the album is recorded...

Re: Recommended amplifier for 12 string

I recommend 60's solid state Vox as Defiant, Conqueror or probably one of their American cousins from the same era. They can be picked up in good condition for the same price as a new AC30. You can play really loud while keeping the clean tone. In addition they got the fuzz sounds from '67/'68 Beatl...

Re: Compressors

Thanks Jeffrey! These sure seems to be very nice units and would suit our studio needs perfect. However the problem is money, my Rick ain't even paid yet so I'm forced to be a low-end guy. However low-end gear can sound nice when picked and used with care. Think I'll be heading for 70's/80's lower e...

Re: Compressors

Unfortunately I don't actually own the Keeley, I borrowed it from a friend who had to sell it. So I'm out looking for an all-analog compressor, ideally with stereo inputs so it can be used for mixing and mastering as well. Thanks for the hint about the JB - I'll check it out. Also considering varoiu...

Re: Wishin' You Were Here (original)

Great playing and nice tune! You really know how to jangle mate :D Regarding the mix I would have gone for a more "live" sound with more ambience. Probably by recording the mix on a condenser mic and adding the track to the original mix. Or probably by sending the mix to a reel-to-reel and...

Re: Just Go Spit Out Another Lie by Spokraket

We're into most of these bands as well - The Smiths was a brilliant band, but I'm clumsy as frack compared to Johnny Marr. Thanks for the words mate, I most certainly took it as a compliment :) I guess Antipodean is right about that removing some lows on the vocals would be good. I'll try it ASAP an...

Re: Compressors

Robert: I'd love to try one of those but they don't seem to be accesible in Denmark even though there's a great guitarstore in my town who always got at least three Rickenbackers up for sale. Suppose they're in stereo for the Ric-O-Sound? In that case I can use it for mastering as well :D Tried the ...

Re: Drugs in Rock`n`Roll

I don't mean to glorify anything and I know quite well that too many drugs can ruin lives. But I do enjoy smoking pot on a regular basis and do some MDMA or psychedelics once a month. We're sometimes stoned when we rehearse or record, but at gigs I'm quite modest - just a few drags to relax. And I'm...

Re: So whats the must have rickenbacker ?

I'd love to have a 366 and put a Accent Vibrato on it if it could be done fully reversible. Only Vox have been crazy enough to put a whammy on a 12-string, but I'd love to try that on a Rickenbacker. You could get some real stunning sounds from that (IF it doesn't go out of tune from the first bend)...

Re: Compressors

Tried the Keeley compressor recently and IMO it's really great: it doesn't affect the basic sound of the guitar too much and it sounds really natural. I used to have a Marshall compressor until three-four years ago but I didn't really fancy it - it added too much noise and sounded too artificial in ...

Re: Just Go Spit Out Another Lie by Spokraket

Thanks a million Mark and Tom :D Well, I really like to use lots of reverb on vocals, but if I ever redo it I'll make a split channel with a clean track as well as a reverb heavy one - makes it easier to fine adjust the amount. The reverse stuff is from a speech at a silver wedding aniversary that w...

Re: the continuing MetroSongs thread...

"East Falls Church" is truly great, your voice has lots of personality and the melody is one to remember! It's like an updated version of John Cales "Paris 1919" with a drunk Stephen Malkmus on vocals. The mix of dreamy elegance and the roughness of the voice makes it really uniq...

Just Go Spit Out Another Lie by Spokraket

Here's a new one we finished recently. Once again we did the instruments live but this time we recorded on a nice early 80's 4-track tape recorder at 7 1/2 ips which really made everything sound warmer and way more defined than before. Our previous singer got some tinitus issues and unfortunately ha...
