Re: Lennon's Fireglo 325
hello collin, my remarks were related to the late 50s (invention of the Capri) and mid 60s, when the originaly Rose Morris Capris were made. The conventional f-holes, as far as we know, were made under the pressure of Rose Morris, and were not a genuine Rickenbacker design feature. When it comes to ...

Re: Lennon's Fireglo 325
There are very few ugly F-holes in the world.... and RIC certainly never produced one. Oh, sorry, brammy, I have to do this. Rickenbacker invented sexy f-holes, the "slash" ones. The RoseMorris-f-holes are, in contrast, embarrassing. At least to me :) They are in it for the money. Wolfgan...

Re: Sound for I wanna hold your hand ?
It'a a never ending story, isn't it? Please let me know, when we or someone came to that conclusion, that Lennon used the J160-E? When I am searching for "the sound of the rhythm guitar of IWTHYH", I find only my own old posts from 2004, where I told this same old story: 325-Hamburg. Exact...

Re: Sound for I wanna hold your hand ?
hello, good point. Maybe the Granada "Scene at 6:30" videos can help? This Boy was mimed with two J160-Es and IWTHYH with George on his Gretsch Country Gent and John on his J 160-E. I have no problem if both J160-E were used (at the recording) for This Boy , George's plugged in and John's ...

Re: Sound for I wanna hold your hand ?
Glen Lambert, a forumite from down under. He did a lot of research regarding to the original 325/58 wiring. From him you can get a replacement loom
for the 325C58. It gives you all options you need to get the early lennonish sounds. For more details please use the board's search function

Re: Sound for I wanna hold your hand ?
hello, talking about guitar cables: the main attribute in regard to the guitar's sound is the capacitance of the cable. It is normally in the range of 300pF to about 1000pF and gives you (if too large) some treble roll off you can not achieve or correct with your amp's tone controls so well. For cle...

Hi Peter,
you are absolutely right. Glen did a lot of research. His loom is highly recommended and an enrichment for every 325C58

Re: Sound for I wanna hold your hand ?
hello Peter, of course I havn't seen a schematic diagram of Glen's loom :) . But, as far as I know, both tone controls work with tone caps in a normal manner ( I don't mean the Rickenbacker "treble pickup bass-cut capacitor" of the basses and guitars). With Glen's loom You can set the brid...

Re: Sound for I wanna hold your hand ?
so you say "2.5 Henry"? 8) There are some combind R-C-L meters in the 50$ range on the market. But it is not too easy to measure the right inductance value as long as the pickups aren't desoldered from the guitar circuity. The inductance of the 7.5kOhm toasters is about 2.2 to 2.5 Henry. W...

Re: Sound for I wanna hold your hand ?
hello Peter, this typical hollow sound of the Hamburg 325 (or a 325C58) does not work so well with the newer Miami 325, because their pickups had a higher impedance (about 2.5 Henries, like all other Rickenbackers of the time). With the newer pickups the sound is too muddy when you turn the treble p...

Re: Sound for I wanna hold your hand ?
Peter, just turn the tone pot to muddy. Use the bridge pu. If you are using a AC30, please use the brilliant channel, turn treble and bass to the low position, treble cut to the treble position You really need the vox-bass cut character to get the right sound. To me, the Hammond organ is a joke. The...

Re: Is the bass in Something Drop D?
by the way: the "funky" end of the bass track was not used for the record. For the last bars a not so busy version was overdubbed on the guitar track. And yes, there are some bass overdubs in the bridge and the solo. If not from the bass guitar it could be from an organ bass pedal. I don't...
