Re: 1984 V63 Magnetic Horseshoe Pickup Question

...I truly believe the timber used in 60's 4001's is different from the wood used in 4003's today. Sepp Of course, the wood used today is not the same as that from 50 years ago, and, also, in that intervening time period, that old wood has probably changed its characteristics due to vibrational and...

Re: Exploding Grovers - anyone repair them?

Shaun,

PM me. Let me know how quickly you need them. Do you need all 4 done? I may have a few spares that, I've already "bomb proofed". I'll have to look.

Haven't pot values changed in the last 10-15+ years? Dane? You'll pick up output but I'm not sure what tonal quality you will have with older pots and newer Hi output pups.

Re: 1984 V63 Magnetic Horseshoe Pickup Question

Many thanks Isaac. But I think you misunderstood. We only wanted to know what's the differences in sound between an older horseshoe with magnetic shoes and a newer horseshoe without magnetic shoes. Greetings Michael No comparison. If anyone tells you a modern RIC, or any other non horsie RIC for th...

Re: 1984 V63 Magnetic Horseshoe Pickup Question

Yup, it's been a while. I believe it was John Hall that said RIC stopped offering the magnetized horseshoes because the steel with desirable magnetic properties had become too difficult to get and too inconsistent. I own an 84 v63 with the magnetic horseshoe. The bobbin in unlike anything that is us...

Re: Lollar Horseshoe vs. Rickenbacker horseshoe

IMHO, the Lollar will sound more like the classic Rickenbacker horseshoe than the RIC re-issue ever would. Lollar is not making the sandwiched magnetic shoes he started out doing. His are all now "real deal" magnetic shoes. pricey, yes but you get what you pay for. Nothing, and mean nothin...

Re: 6-pole Horseshoe Lapsteel PU to 4-Pole Bass HS PU Conver

Terry, I spoke to Mark a while ago and it's confirmed, he's not doing this mod. anymore. Actually, the bass raised lip bobbin is a little narrower (less tall) than the lap steel pup you have. Have you attempted to contact Tom Brantley in North Carolina? He's the only one I can think of that may be a...

Nice, A large magnet slotted pole pick up! I love the growl on those!! Send it out and get it rewound! A guy like Tom Brantley can do it very reasonably for you. He's in North Carolina and on Facebook. He's fixed a few of mine. Very knowledgeable and his work is awesome!

Re: 2nd edition sneak peek

No, the lineup in that shot is (don't have build dates) an early 4000, a Mapbleglo 4002, a Jetglo 4001, a Mapleglo 4001, a Jetglo 4001 fretless, and a late '70s Fireglo set-neck 4000. He's holding the RM 3261 that Gary Clauson used to own. No Burgundy in this shot. I hope to use this photo again in...

Re: 2nd edition sneak peek

Paul, Geddy's wall of Ric's, is that a Burgundyglo 68 behind him? Scully, that SoB, was supposed to get me a photo of Geddy posing with it. That was one of the terms of the sale, the ******* came through on that. Just curious since I know he took her on tour and played her often during their farewel...

Re: Fixing the notorious Grover Wavy tuners for good

I could not find a step by step guide of how it's done so this is how I went about it. Nothing new here... and there is a guide for this procedure, right here on RRF: http://www.rickresource.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=413403&hilit=tap+grovers Paul W. has been doing this for years. I beli...

Re: What is the truth about Ric 4003 necks?

My 2012 4003 is tuned to CGCF with "bridge cable" gauge strings and there zero problems with its neck. A season tweak of the rods is all she needs to stay flat.
