Vox Night Train 50 vs, AC 30
Does anyone know if the current Vox Night Train 50 sounds more like an AC-30 (enough distortion with great chime ) or is it more like Marshall (fierce and savage ) distortion ? I like EL-34 tubes but not the all-metal cabinetry of the NT-50.To see the tubes is nice. The Vox AC-50 looks twice as good...

Re: Does anyone else have a Thomas Vox SS Lead Series 90?
It is funny how back then (1969) it was hip for a guitar amp like a Vox or Acoustic to have a high-frequency horn. Why not? Don't guitars have high frequencies ? Then they went out of fashion. Those Series 90 Vox amps came along when Jimi Hendrix made a Marshall more hip than a Vox. What if Jimi had...

Re: Amp for 12 string?
For the British sound of early Beatles or Who you would want EL 34 tubes as in a Hiwatt. Modern Reeves amps sound like that. Laney has a 50 watt head that gets a nice chime and distortion at the same time. A Fender Vibrolux or Deluxe will cut good.

Re: Has anyone tried the new VOX Valvetronix+ amps?
I have the VT 120+ and it took me a good while to get some good sounds. The bigger ones like my 212 can be bassey. I never have the bass up to 12:00. Mine is loud; the others not as loud as you would expect. The built-in tuner is handy. All you need is a guitar and a cord. The 5 button footswitch ca...

Re: 4001s vs The Hofner
I have two 4003 basses and most of the time they sound better on recordings. They are not too bassey. I also have a Hofner CT 500/1 and those 'buckers get a ton of bass. I learned to set the EQ with just the bridge pickup (add bass and cut the mids some at 300-500 hZ). Then turn up the neck pickup t...

Re: I need a livingroom/jamming amp. :)
I have a Yorkville 200t (200 watts @2ohms) . It has 210s and that is about twice as much as I would need to play along with the sterio. Rain and "And Your Bird Can Sing" get me cranked up to eviction levels. Ashdown make a 40 watt/110 called Perfect Ten that would be a cool cube-shaped liv...

Re: Bass Amp ID
The bass player I played guitar with had a Peavey like that with a 215 cabinet. It worked every Friday and Saturday for about a year.It had about 200 watts and did CCR songs about as good as a Kustom. I hated that amp.

Adding Bass-Cut Cap
Would it be OK to add a bass-cut cap [with bypass switch] to a non-Rickenbacker bass such as a Jazz Bass? Wouldn't it do the same thing as on my 4003 basses? I would get all of the lows from the neck pickup and use the bridge pickup for treble "seasoning".

Re: Thunderbird
What's that phrase,"YMMV"? Indeed! I think the T-Bird is second only to Ricks in that department. Obviously its the honeymoon period so I'm treading lightly here, but I honestly did not expect it to sound so good! The neck pickup soloed is my favorite sound on it so far, in sp...

Re: Robin Zander
I have seen them once in Birmingham and they were good. Check out The Latest, a newish album with the bass mixed louder than usual. On PBS they were good recently. Robin's voice has held up well.

Re: Ron Wood on a Ric
If Rickenbacker ever make an electric sitar, it will sound better than Ronnie Wood's lo-fi sitar. Ron's has not enough low mids and the sustain is too short.

Re: Jefferson Airplane Question
There is a PBS fund raiser program that's been out for a year or more that features acts from the '60's Summer of Love' kind of stuff. The Airplane is on and Marty's got his trusty 360-12. To my surprise the whole band, with several original members, sounded fantastic ! The best thing on the show b...

Pearl, greyish or black would give it some classy texture. Could you get a metal guard that is yellow [like brass, except aluminum] ??
