Re: The 4005XC finally made it to Ozland

Interesting comment about the chromes. I have a set on my XC, and have noticed the same thing. I even put foam under them by the tailpiece also. I might have an old set of TIs around- maybe I’ll give it a shot. I was planning on putting the factory strings back on, but I’m a flat wound guy. The TI ...

Re: The 4005XC finally made it to Ozland

I’ve put some D’Addario Chromes on. Not my favorite flatwounds but it will do until I receive a pair of Thomastik. I definitely prefer the 4005XC with flatwounds. Obviously, a matter of taste. I finally ordered and received a set of TI JF344. These are now installed on my 4005XC, reminding me this ...

Re: Is it happening? A new 4005?!

I was quoted US$4,699 from Wildwood, including freight. I'll be up for local taxes & duties on delivery to OZ on top of that. Despite that I hit the button to order mine. Cheers, Awesome! I’ll inquire with them! House is paid off, daughter is out of her posh private school. Time to treat myself.

Re: Is it happening? A new 4005?!

The new one is going to be $ 5250 Canadian . I don't think that is unreasonable when you compare to Gibson and Fender prices . I put a deposit down on one , I wonder if I will still be alive when it arrives ..... Wow! That’s pretty good! I paid my 4005XC more than that! Where did you put your depos...

Re: Potentiometers and Bartolini pickups on 4001

What would be a good source for pots that have the same physical dimensions as the originals? Same question for the push-pull pot for bypassing the bass blocker cap. To answer your question, the pots are from CTS. Retailers are dime a dozen so just Google CTS pot. You’ll find local(ish) retailers.

Your Jet 4001 looks great! Thanks. That’s my go to bass. It’s turning 51 in April! https://www.rickresource.com/register/viewitem.php?id=7915&bl=%2Fregister%2Findex.php%3Fsearch%3Dtrue%26model%3D39%26strings%3D0%26special%3D0%26finish%3D29%26def_state%3D%26country%3D%26year%3D1973%26month%3D4%2...

Re: 4005XC

I snagged one of these from Wildwood during their Holiday Season sale. What an incredibly capable bass! Re: Just got a new 4003 in Mapleglo

Not as a rule. Retailers sometimes order a special batch in special colors, clear coats, and checker binding. But the shedua/walnut center strip has returned, and the new tailpiece, and (I think) the solitary dual-action truss rod are standard now. :) Having had 4001/4003 from pretty much all from ...

Re: Just got a new 4003 in Mapleglo

I may be the only person who feels this way, but I'd really rather have maple wings on the headstock on a mapleglo. Yeah, agree. If I had a wish list it would be for the 4003 to have the same headstock as the 1972 models, and the wings as per the 73 4001. Oh.. and crushed perloids as per the 4005XC.

Re: The 4005XC finally made it to Ozland

I intend to put flats on mine, at least to try them out. As for why RIC put rounds on, I'd guess that it's because that's what they use these days. That way, they have to buy only one kind of strings rather than two. I’ve put some D’Addario Chromes on. Not my favorite flatwounds but it will do unti...

The 4005XC finally made it to Ozland

I guess these must have been on a slow boat to Oz but my local shop finally received a Jetglo and an Amberglo. The Jetglo is now mine. What an awsome sounding bass. Quite overpriced considering the less than perfect finish but hey… we only live once. Not sure why these are strung with roundwond stri...

Re: Just got a new 4003 in Mapleglo

The Rock Inn? Ha! I was just having dinner @ Hanami Japanese around the corner last night! I've never seen a Rick 4003 on the walls at the Rock Inn. I bought my '83 AzureGlo 4003 from Melbourne sight unseen, having no idea whether it would agree with me or not, having never seen a Rick 4003 in a sh...

Just got a new 4003 in Mapleglo

I haven’t been posting here for quite a while! I dropped by today by my local music shop and saw a new Rickie 4003 in Mapleglo. They rarely come by in Oz so I grabbed it. https://therockinn.com/collections/new-arrivals-1/products/rickenbacker-4003-mapleglo-solidbody-electric-bass-guitar-1 It was coo...
