Re: New Rick Owner - not so happy so far....

That bar was just some guy's version of the stop tailpiece, mounted between the bridge and the tailpiece. It looked pretty rustic, but the short-bent ends (that made it a "U") did go into the wood. The Mastery bridge is anchored directly to the body, so some sort of string repositioning ba...

Re: New Rick Owner - not so happy so far....

OK, I just typed out a response (below) and then realized that there is no good option that would work for sure. The "R" tailpiece is not that far up & away from the guitar body as it is.... I'm leaving the response here, anyway, hoping that it might stimulate further discussion/ideas....

Re: New Rick Owner - not so happy so far....

A few of us, I think, have had a problem or at least some dissatisfaction with the break angle. My Model 1996 was pretty much unplayable because in order to even touch the strings with the bridge I had to raise it way up. Of course, the action was too high, and the break angle was nearly non-existen...

Re: Ric 4002 pickup problems

It just occurred to me that you could bypass all intermediate connections and, in that way, check to see if the pickup is working. All you'd be doing is bypassing the volume pot. If you have a lead wire (wire with alligator clips on each end) this would be easy; a little tricky to hold both ends of ...

Re: Ric 4002 pickup problems

It sounds like a loose connection somewhere in the circuit of that treble (bridge) pickup, or the switch itself. It's easy to remove the pickguard screws, lift the pickguard up and then flip it over. If it has to rest somewhat on your guitar (short pickup wires) put some cloth or something there so ...

Re: Push pull true bypass tone pot for bass?

You know, I'm such a hack with a tin ear that something has to be way off for me to really notice. I think the intonation is acceptable; it is "Lennonesque," so it has to be acceptable, right? Exact intonation of all six strings is impossible. To begin, you must be sure you're using...

Re: Push pull true bypass tone pot for bass?

That's great. I have no idea what a no-load pot is; I guess I should find out. Since your experimental (?) modification of your 250K pot worked out so well, will you be buying a 500K (RIC tone pot spec.) pot and installing that? OK, I'm re-reading your pot mod procedure; I think I have the basic ide...

Re: Push pull true bypass tone pot for bass?

You'd think that the volume and tone pots would be directly connected. If you study the schematic you'll be surprised to see that there is no connection. http://www.rickenbacker.com/pdfs/19501.pdf I admit that obtaining a harness from Dane (aceonbass) certainly be the most expedient way to get what ...

Re: Push pull true bypass tone pot for bass?

I’ve recently been working on this sort of stuff, adding push-pull switches for middle pickup and the .0047 tone cap. I made a “breadboard” to easily attach, change and reattach components connected by leads with alligator clips – easy experimentation, etc. You can see my idea for the bypass, which ...

Re: Treble bleed modification

Thanks for the info. However, I guess I was far too assuming and "homey" in my question. I was really asking, "Which of you guys here play this intro?" If I played bass, I'd warm up playing this. I'm not sure what percentage of (old) guys here are familiar with the song; probably...

Re: Reassembling a 310C64

^ ^ ^ ...sounds like a good idea..... I had my 1996 out last night and was fooling around with the tuning. Man, I really like this guitar, and having spent so much time getting to play this well (11 years!)... well, I just couldn't bring myself to messing with the Mastery bridge and experimenting wi...

Re: Reassembling a 310C64

I've been thinking a lot about this and have concluded that there must be something peculiar about this B string tuning and its short-scale length that's creating this annoying anomaly. When I tune up I'm pretty picky and try to get the tuning as accurate as possible. My "ping" just disapp...

Re: Reassembling a 310C64

I just spent some analytical time with my Model 1996, and for the most part, I can't offer anything new, really. That B string is unwieldly. I didn't really notice an overtone, as a sound/note without any sort of buzz. My feeling is that the quality of the note is largely dependent of the fretting. ...
