Re: Bluegrass!
Grew up on this music and both sides of my family are from the same place as Ralph & Carter Stanley - Clintwood, in Dickenson County, VA. My eldest uncle was married to Ralph and Carter's second cousin, Francis Stanley, who recently passed. I run into Ralph now and then when I head south to see ...
Re: Subaru!
We've a 2005 Forester XT that has given us zero problems even with 130K miles on it. Great car and loves the highway - once caught myself doing 105 MPH on a parkway just after we'd bought it and had no clue I was going that fast! My only complaint is the excessive road noise with our car but I under...

Re: What is guitar Bo Diddley Played on Ed Sullivan in 1955?
The pickguard and headstock shapes suggest it's a Harmony or similar guitar - such as a Kay, Old Kraftsman, Silvertone and the like. To my eyes, it looks like a Harmony H-61 or comparable model. Here's the Silvertone version sans pickguard - http://i862.photobucket.com/albums/ab184/harmonyguitar/201...

Yep. This is the only place I visit where this happens. Can't explain it. It'll probably be good for a few days before it happens again.johnallg wrote:Mike, are your cookies enabled?

Re: Fender Concert Amp
Very nice pickup, Jeff! Those brownfaced Concerts are some of the best sounding amps Fender ever made. I can't tell from the pics but is your amp brown or blonde?

Re: Fleetwood Mac with Danny Kirwan
Not many realize it, but Kirwan was every bit as good as Peter Green and played some *killer* guitar solos. Then there's the rest of the story... (http://www.fleetwoodmac.net/penguin/danny.htm) This is one of my favorite Kirwan/Green guitar bits - note than Danny breaks a string yet keeps rippin'! H...

Re: Happy birthday, peewee!
Hey! Thanks, everyone! I don't pop in here much these days as my info isn't retained for some reason - I'm supposed to be logged in automatically with each visit but that hasn't been the case for a while now.
Very touching that you all would care enough to remember my birthday! *sniff*

Re: NOS Fender Bronco
Guess what? I found my old Bronco and it's in pretty good shape! Just needs a few minor parts and it's back to being playable; may cost me all of $50 to get it up to snuff. Thanks for starting this thread, Mitch because I may have never thought about the whereabouts of mine!

Re: Guild B 301 Bass
I owned a black B-301 back in 1979 and I loved that bass. Great tone due to the solid mahogany body and really easy to play; the only downside was that it was a bit of a neck diver. You usually see a lot of B-302 or B-302A basses on the market but rarely a B-301. I think that they were very unapprec...

Re: Gibson Les Paul '59 Reissue
Nice grab, Mitch - these are the best Lesters that Gibson has to offer! I love Les Pauls and I've had a few stellar R9s over the last few years but the economy forced me to sell. I'm back in the market and have been looking for just the right one; I'm really particular. Here are a couple that really...

Re: For all you "Let It Be"-era Hofner fans.....
I bought one of these "Bassman" decals sometime early last year. It's close, but wasn't the original on Macca's Hoffie turquoise - just like the stenciling on his newly acquired Bassman Amp? Don't know about what everyone else has, but the lettering on mine is black and came from the same ...

Re: Some more blues as it should be played
Bob, there has always been some debate as to who was playing harp on "Iodine In My Coffee"; Little Walter or Junior Wells. The recording logs at Chess credit Walter as being on the session, and based on the timeline makes sense. However the tone of the harp on that track sounds a lot like ...
