Re: Searchers, Byrds and Dusty Springfield

My apologies... I'm sorry to say that In an effort to set things right, the information I entered in my posts is not correct. After just listening to The Searchers' version of Popcorn Double Feature , I realized that it is not the recording which was given to me by Scott English and Larry Weiss aft...

Re: Top 5 Beatles Guitar Solos by Paul McCartney

Not having been personally present at these recording sessions, I can't swear who played what on which session. However, are you aware of the fact that the virtuoso guitarist who actually played on most of these recording sessions is Hugh McCracken? I was acquainted with Hugh as he played on some of...

Re: Searchers, Byrds and Dusty Springfield

As was customary, whenever a song-writer or music publisher sent a song to any artist for their consideration to record it, they would send a recorded demo plus a lead sheet. Thereby you could quickly learn the tune from the demo and clearly get the words from the lead sheet. Since I learned the tun...

Re: Searchers, Byrds and Dusty Springfield

Any source claiming that my version of Popcorn Double Feature was the first recording and release of the song is absolutely wrong. The writers, Scott English and Larry Weiss, who were personal friends of my manager Bob Reno, personally gave me a copy of The Searchers recording of the song for me to ...

Re: Searchers, Byrds and Dusty Springfield

No Peter, I never met The Searchers or The Fall . The only artists I was acquanted with during that period were those who got booked on the same TV shows I appeared on, such as Stevie Wonder , The Fifth Dimension and many others. I still have some publications from that time period, and I'm attachin...

Re: Searchers, Byrds and Dusty Springfield

Liberties were taken with the lyrics. In my previous post, in addition to the correction I made, I failed to mention that the words "Not much..." are not part of the lyrics written by the writers of the song, Scott English and Larry Weiss. The recording session was at a huge studio in midt...

Re: Searchers, Byrds and Dusty Springfield

Hi Peter: It's my pleasure to join in the discussion seeing there still is interest in this recording. Yes, I was only thirteen years old at the time, and it was a very frustrating and difficult experience for myself as well as for my manager Bob Reno as he dealt with the record company. Because Tow...

Re: Searchers, Byrds and Dusty Springfield

Hi: To provide an answer to part of a question that was raised earlier in this thread... On the contrary, The Searchers recorded Popcorn Double Feature before I did. When their recording went nowhere, a copy of it was sent as a demo to my manager, Bob Reno, in order to get the song re-recorded by on...
