Setting Hi Gain pickup heights

Is there a standard reference measurement that's used on 4003 basses in setting pickup heights? I've looked online, but haven't been able to find one. The tech who did the wiring on my bass claims that my pickups are far too low. Part of his rationale is the fact that the neck pickup is really high ...

Re: Body routing for vintage bridge

I've spent hours searching online and haven't found too much information, which is why I'm hoping the experts here can advise me. I found one picture on Reddit that is said to show a rout that serves both the bridge and the mute. Can anybody tell me if this looks typical of what a person sees under ...

Body routing for vintage bridge

I'm busy upgrading my Rickenfaker by changing everything over to high quality electronics, and Rickenbacker Hi Gain pickups and hardware. I just added the 00550 tuners today, and have a vintage style 4001 bridge coming that should be here Monday. I spent some time this afternoon reviewing a video on...

Re: Sourcing pickups

I wish I had unlimited money to do this and I'd buy one of his harnesses based on the testimonials here. Unfortunately, spending well over 100.00 on a wiring harness is beyond my means. However, I trust his judgement as far as choosing good components, so I've ordered high quality 250K volume pots, ...

Re: Sourcing pickups

I now have a 4003 neck pickup and a 4003 Bridge pickup assembly on the way here. I'd like to completely redo the harness so I'm starting fresh. Can you tell me what pots....250K or 330K....and what value of capacitors I should be using with these pickups? Thanks for your advice. I appreciate it.

Re: Sourcing pickups

Rickenbacker seems to be out of the 00003 Pickup Assy 4003. If I have a bass with what appears to be the same dimensions as the normal pickup that is screwed to the mounting base, is there any reason why a 4003 neck wouldn't work in it's place? I already have the bezel and cover, so the raw pickup e...

Sourcing pickups

I have a replica that I want to upgrade to real Rickenbacker bass pickups. Looking online, there seems to be lots of Brand X manufacturers selling look-alikes and it sometimes hard to know what's real and what's not. Is there a definitive source that reliably sells the real thing?

Re: Lawrence Q-Filter with Toasters?

I went ahead and installed the Q-Filter today. It sounds pretty good, although the effect is pretty subtle on single coil pickups. I haven't done much adjustment of the Toasters heights...It's proved to be a bit problematic on a Fender-based guitar where there's not enough room to top-mount the pick...

Re: Lawrence Q-Filter with Toasters?

Thanks for the reply. I'm surprised but pleased to hear that they're still the same as the old ones. I know that I've read somewhere online that they were greater number of winds, machine wound rather than scatter-wound, and higher in output. For the life of me, I can't seem to find that information...

Lawrence Q-Filter with Toasters?

Has anyone here tried using the Bill Lawrence Q-Filter with Rickenbacker Toaster pickups? I'm building a new harness for my Tele partscaster with Ric Toasters and I'm torn between a conventional tone control (probably a greasebucket circuit) and using the Q-Filter. As I understand it, the Q-Filter c...

12 string bridge question

I've recently bought a Fender XII clone with a TOM-style bridge. I'd like to upgrade it to a bridge offering 12-saddle intonation. Can somebody tell me what the string spread is at the bridge on a Rickenbacker twelve string guitar? Thanks

Re: Newb pickup question

Thanks John. I got the neck pickup mounted this morning. As soon as my pots and switch order get here, I'll start the wiring.

This seems like a nice forum. I appreciate the quick and helpful replies.

Re: Newb pickup question

Thanks Eden. I feel a bit dumb....hadn't realized those were threaded holes in the pickup base. (I'm not quite blind, but close!). This makes a lot more sense now.

Newb pickup question

Hi, I'm new to the forum and new to working on Rickenbackers. I just bought a standard 4001 bass pickup for a basket case I'm restoring. It came with two machine screws and two tiny rubber grommets. Am I correct in assuming that these go in the holes in the piickup mounting ears and the screw is thr...
