Folowing up, I spoke with Jim Mouradian this morning, seems like a great guy, Rickenbacker enthusiast, and he's a bit backed up now - a good sign. Thanks again for the referral.

Re: Are 360/12's hard to play?

!st fret "pressure" is down to nut height (of course, string tension plays into this, too, gauge being only a small part of this as higher gauge strings could potentially, be lower in tension, discounting plain - non-wound - strings, of course). Have you ever had the nut slots filed to th...

Re: Are 360/12's hard to play?

Be careful you don't go too wide to "utilize the full fretboard", you may just find yourself falling off the edges. What is the nut width of your acoustic vs. the 360? Acoustic (Takamine F400-S pre-lawsuit): 1 9/16" Ric 360/12 2012: 1 5/8" So, not a HUGE difference, to be sure. ...

Re: Are 360/12's hard to play?

Jon and Jim Mouradian may be the best on the eastern seaboard. And they're only in Winchester, MA! Thank you very much! It occurs to me I should educate myself about what is possible in a great set-up, and what options I might want. A few years ago when I first started this thread a nice guy sent m...

Re: Are 360/12's hard to play?

I'm back! Weird, yes. I kept the Rick because it's beautiful, but I was so stressed over it I just put it in the case and put it away 'til now. Wow. Four-plus years. Now I will take a lot of the great advice given here and get it set up. Can anyone recommend a Ric expert luthier in the Boston area? ...

Do you ever get a live person on the phone? I've only ever gotten an automated system that goes to the voicemail box of Richard Canata (not sure of the spelling).

Re: Tension Test Data for 12 String Sets

Thanks for the excellent work, and paper. Just an editorial comment: I find it impossible to adequately resolve the different colors in the graph on the last page. For example, on my Macbook Pro, the colors for the bars labeled 18.0 and 19.2 appear identical. In addition, I may be slightly color bli...

Re: Are Rick Guitar Stand Cases Discontinued?! DOH!

Since the Ric Guitar stand case is in their 2012 price list, I would contact a dealer and ask them to get one for you; or contact Ric and ask if they can tell you which dealers may have ordered some. The part number is 94600. "Guitar stand, resembles Tolex guitar case, holds three guitars"...

Re: Volume control "bump"

Thanks, I should have mentioned that I tried that; at first I thought it might be the knob, so I removed it, and it's definitely in the pot. I'm a bit flabbergasted that a pot would go bad on its own. But, no physical impact of any kind, babied since it arrived here.

Volume control "bump"

My new 360/12 (which I'm still evaluating) has a problem with on of the controls. The treble volume control has a mechanical "bump" in it. It is significant, in that by feel one might imagine they have reached the end of the travel of the control, when in fact approximately 90º of travel r...

Re: Are 360/12's hard to play?

Thanks everyone, for your replies and your interest in helping me. I bought the guitar new, from Musician's Friend. (The return policy is 45 days. I haven't decided yet). I assume the strings are factory, which are Ric 95404. I bought another couple of sets of these. I was never a big fan of flat wo...

Re: Are 360/12's hard to play?

Gary, thanks for the detailed reply. I understand what you are saying, that I need a good setup. What I hear is that you are saying the neck clearance should be 0 to .002" at the high E and 0 to 0.004" at the low E. That's pretty close to flat, as I'm running about 0.010" on both my a...

Re: Are 360/12's hard to play?

Greg, thanks for your reply. I think I have a train wreck of a setup. Since one of the features of this is that the nut slots are nowhere near deep enough, I can't blame this on MF, since they could only have made the slots deeper if they messed with it. The good news is that it is not terminal, i.e...
