Re: “Professor Plum” The 1970 4001 21 Fretter

I suppose this thread better jump over to “appraisals”. I’m trying to come up with a fair market price for it but I don’t see many examples with which to draw upon...

Re: “Professor Plum” The 1970 4001 21 Fretter

I think our fine fellow member Teeder, has about 100 Ric basses from this era, so maybe he knows what pots are in his... haha! Teeder? Ha! It seems like it sometimes! Right now, I'd like to have just one! Interestingly, I just went back and looked at pictures of my two previous 21 fretters, both fr...

Re: “Professor Plum” The 1970 4001 21 Fretter

The inscription in the neck pocket was most likely done by the original owner (I’m not 100% sure but it seems the most rational explanation, still kinda cool though; by way of provenance). That was principally the subject I was hoping to investigate, with help from the Ric cognoscenti on the forum. ...

Re: “Professor Plum” The 1970 4001 21 Fretter

What an unusual inscription in the neck PU route. Anyone seen anything like this in other vintage Rics? My guess is that Berni out it there himself, knowing that someday in the furure it would become an matter of discussion (and that, if he still owned the bass, his memory would have faded by now, ...

Re: “Professor Plum” The 1970 4001 21 Fretter

Thanks for the continued input everyone. Here’s an image update with a correction. Never trust your memory, especially if you’re over 50, lol. The CTS pots and harness definitely appear to be stock but I goofed on my memory of the pot dates. When taking detailed pics under the hood, I noticed that o...

Re: “Professor Plum” The 1970 4001 21 Fretter

Thanks for the input so far fellow forumites. Yes, the bridge does sit a little higher above the lower rim, closer to 3/8” above it. Not quite a 1/2” but Paul is correct, there are variations with these early instruments. You can see these variations on some of the 1970 21 fret basses listed in the ...

“Professor Plum” The 1970 4001 21 Fretter

I recently acquired this wonderful 21-fret 1970 Burgandyglo 4001. I’ve managed to trace its provenance somewhat, with the help of an unusual scribing inside the neck pickup cavity. Here’s something for you Ric Resource sleuths to ponder... This lovely burgundyglo bass “Professor Plum” has the follow...

It’s good to see your post Sergio. Nice to have you “re”winding back here after so long! Sorry about the pun, I couldn’t help myself ... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Re: 6-pole Horseshoe Lapsteel PU to 4-Pole Bass HS PU Conver

Amazingly stupid question - does a 6-pole horseshoe work on a bass? The toaster is a six-pole unit, and it works well! :? It's a fair question antipodean. Unfortunately, the answer is... partially . If you're lucky enough to have a string relatively centered over the polepiece, it will work. The on...

Re: 60's Rickenbacker Lapsteel wiring diagram needed

jps, you'd be correct. It's about as simple as a circuit could be. I'm really after wiring it exactly the same way Rickenbacker would have done it back in the day, for restoration purposes. I suppose pictures would in fact, be the better option here, as a diagram doesn't reveal the quirky things Ric...

Re: 6-pole Horseshoe Lapsteel PU to 4-Pole Bass HS PU Conver

Thanks for the input guys. The raised lip bobbin on my lapsteel looks so damn close, oh well. I'd still be happy with making that a 4 pole PU, as it stands. Thanks for the info Sepp, I'll contact Tom, in the hopes that he can take it on. Btw, I just noticed recently, that Geddy ended up with your '6...

'60's Ric Lapsteel wiring diagram needed

To all the folks out there in Rickenbackerland... Does anyone possibly have a wiring diagram, or detailed pics of the wiring for a '60's single pickup (HS), Ric Lapsteel? Thanks!

6-pole Horseshoe Lapsteel PU to 4-Pole Bass HS PU Conversion

I wanted to reach out to the Ric Resource community, to see if any of you might recommend a pickup wiz who can correctly convert my '66 Ric 6 string Lapsteel HS PU to a bass HS PU. As far as I can see, the horsehoe, bobbin height and materials are identical to a Bass HS of the same period (including...
