Re: V68 (ish)

Limited Edition Bass. I had neck issues and the factory fret work was quite poor. There was a lot to work with, so I was able to sort it all out myself. I routed the body to move the neck pickup. Changes were done over 3 years ago and the bass has been the most stable Rickenbacker I have ever owned...

Re: String retainer - v2 tailpiece

Wow, thanks for all the pics and for that analysis. Bummer that the string-retainer won't fit the old tailpieces (without major modification at least).

String retainer - v2 tailpiece

I remember someone on this forum suggesting a long time ago that a solution for avoiding tail lift on a 4001c64 vintage style 3-screw tailpiece would be to secure a brass string-retaining block to the body of the bass under rear end of the tailpiece so that string tension be applied to the block rat...

Re: Exploding Grovers - anyone repair them?

Thanks for the reply. I hadn’t realised Paul was still in the Rick-fixing business. Only thing is my PW restoration took about 2 years and I need the bass for a festival in May. How long did yours take? Looks like I’m sending them to Larry Davis, but I’ll keep Paul in mind in case Larry isn’...

Re: 4003 finish woes

Does anyone have any advice about the method I should employ to strip the finish down to bare wood?

Re: 4003 finish woes

My 2009 C64 (jetglo) has indentations from the tailpiece in the finish, but thankfully there is no cracking or flaking. The bass has another finish issue though -- it becomes very dull and sort of cloudy looking when left in its case for very long. I usually spritz a little water on the finish and p...

4003 finish woes

The finish on my fireglo 2009 4003 has starting flaking off around the tailpiece, exposing the bare maple underneath. I noticed this around a month ago after using the bass at a gig for the first time. I took the tailpiece off this weekend to take a closer look, and it's even worse than I thought. W...

Re: Tailpiece modification

Thanks for the offer, but I'd like to hang on to the original tailpiece. Some potential future owner might not be as annoyed about the lift as I am.

Tailpiece modification

The tailpiece on my 2009 C64 bass has developed an annoying amount of lift despite the low tension strings that I use. I'd like to replace it with a five-screw tailpiece but I'll be sad to lose the vintage "notch." Has anyone here ever cut a notch into a standard tailpiece?

1973 4001 parted out

I hope it's alright that I post this since I'm not the registered owner of this bass. Sadly, it appears that the register entry for MB555 (Feb 1973) needs to be updated to indicate that the bass has been butchered. The pickguard assembly, wiring harness, and jack plate are for sale on ebay: https://...

Re: Black treble pickup bezel

I don't have one to sell, but you can order a brand new one from RickySounds in the UK. I've ordered from RickySounds several times and had the items shipped to the US. I've always had a good experience.

Re: Mystery bass in official Ric Instagram feed

Also, I may be crazy, but doesn't it appear that the neck cavity on each of those basses extends right up to the edge of the fretboard?

Mystery bass in official Ric Instagram feed

Anyone want to hazard a guess about the 5th bass pictured in this factory row?

I see a reverse headstock, white finish, and what appears to be an ebony fingerboard with dot inlays. Do my eyes deceive me? Is this a one-off?

Re: Fixing the notorious Grover Wavy tuners for good

Chris,

Do you offer a repair service? :? I just removed two wavy grovers tuners with exploding backs from my 4001 and I am hoping to fix them but I lack the tools (and the skill, I'm afraid).
