Re: can you unyellow 4003 binding?
Wasn't there some discussion somewhere (maybe not here) about RIC using a slightly creamy white binding lately?

Re: Just picked this up.
Set neck was the norm for the 4001S and the 4000 from '72 to the early 80s. By default, all lefties are rare as they make so few of them. I think the most valuable aspect of your instrument is its condition! Looks nearly mint, and for a 40 year old instrument, that's really something!

Re: Rickenbacker Guitars:Out of the Frying Pan into the Fireglo
That's one of the foibles of publishing a book. The minute you do so, the book becomes obsolete. That's what I faced with both editions of my book. Perhaps the authors felt that not much has changed with the company and the product since 2001? Hmm. No, that's not it. I'm sure it is a great book rega...

Re: Modified 67 RIC 360 to bass on Reverb
There was some discussion on Rickenbacker Bass Guitars Facebook page, and chiming in was the guy who put it together - Larry Davis!!! So I'm pretty sure it was done with some skill!

Re: Saddles Keep Moving - 2001 4003s
According to "the book," the 4003S model was on hiatus from 1997 to 2015 when it was brought back. If you really wanted a down-trimmed model during that time off, you were steered to the "vintage" models, the 4001V63 up to 2002, and the 4001C64 and 64S up to 2011.

Re: RIC 4003 RED BT Finish Purchase
Might be the same as "Fire Alarm Red" (FAR) that was made for a German distributor five or so years back. Don't forget "Trans Red" that was available only on the 4004Cii Cheyenne II.

Re: RIC 4003 RED BT Finish Purchase
You have an original finish that was called Red (RED) that was usually accompanied by black binding, trim, and hardware. At that time, several official colors had black accent as the standard, including White, Silver, Midnight Blue, and even Mapleglo (for a while). If the finish is in good shape, I'...

Re: Five Watt World Video
A few of us were writing about this video over on TalkBass. A quick look, but lots of factual errors. He acknowledges the Smith book that was published in 1987 and a more recent book on basses in general, but I don't know how he missed my book - it's been out for more than eight years now. Hello!? :...

It's in the 4003 chapter: page 64 in the first edition (blue cover), page 66 in the second edition (peach cover).
