Re: CITES II

Finally, a question: can you advise if there is a specific date after which the Rickenbacker Corporation used only (unlisted) Caribbean Rosewood in their guitars? Unfortunately, there is no sharp cut-off date. Generally speaking, I think most all production at least as early as 2015 was Carribean R...

Re: CITES II

Caribbean Rosewood is not CITES listed, so it doesn't affect us as far as new instruments. Vintage instruments with various rosewoods and ebony, unfortunately, are a big problem until licensing is simplified for personal instrument owners.

Re: 4003 CB Copper Orangeglo (COG)

I absolutely dislike the colour, but great you're doing stuff like this. :-) Doesn't do a thing for me either. I had a refrigerator back in the late sixties rather like this color and it was cool then- but tastes change. But I'm glad it appeals to a great number of people and I'm happy to see Ben t...

Re: How to shield a 4003 bass?

All I'm saying, connect each portion of the shielding material to only one place. For instance, cut a ring around the pot mounting bushing or add an insulating washer to the hole so the pot shell is only grounded through the wiring harness. If you shield the cavity of the instrument and the back of ...

Re: Was Transonic with serial 325 really used by Led Zeppeli

Being semi-retired has given me the luxury of time! This morning I used this to review the Led Zeppelin file, which has full receipts and shipping documentation for the goods that they used on the tour. Unfortunately, neither #227 or #325- top or bottom section- appear in the records we have. Sorry ...

Re: How to shield a 4003 bass?

Ground loop. Every component must touch ground in only one spot. For example, if pots are grounded on the bushings and connected to the stock wiring, the instrument often hums more than when there is no shielding. All of the shielding must connect to ground on the bass at only one spot.

Re: My new "signature" Rick bass!!!

All it takes to get something different is a dealer/distributor to place an order of a certain minimum of some particular combination of color, trim, and equipment. Sorry, but this needs to be corrected. We routinely turn down requests like this for much larger quantities as we literally have far m...

Re: I am surprised at the strict Ric warranty stringset term

Both the manual and the warranty state our policy which is that any string, of any type, that conforms to factory specifications may be used. That means similar gauge, but most importantly, similar tension. There are many flat wound strings that are suitable, including sets from Maxima, Thomastik In...

I wouldn't admit it because we don't do it. Period. It's just too easy for us to remove all the old finish first before repainting.

Re: BARC 2016 -- Bay Area Rickenbacker Confluence

For what it's worth, Sarah (Rickygirl) and I will be in downtown San Francisco from the late afternoon of Aug. 10th until the 13th when we move on. I realize a weekday is not prime time . . . but thought I'd throw it out there.

teeder wrote:Nice job. How's the intonation with the different scale, or did you move the bridge / TP?
No need to move the bridge at all. Since it was an entirely new neck and fingerboard, it would have been just a simple calculation to figure out where the neck should go between the body wings.

Re: Trivial vintage hardcase question

Yes, Victoria Luggage was our common supplier in the earlier part of that time period and later, DeCuir Sample Case also came on the scene with cases of that type. All of the cases were completely custom, that is, they were ordered by each company specifically to fit their own product. I will have t...

Re: GC Rickenbacker 4001S Special?

the last real vintage instrument I had in my two mits was a 1967 4000, ( I am omitting the 4005 for the moment)...the neck on this new recreation is NOTHING like the old bass. the old neck was a fraction of the thickness of the recreation. I have played many of the vintage ones and this bass is now...

Re: GC Rickenbacker 4001S Special?

Couple that with CNC machining these days, and there really is no excuse. I would agree if guitars were made of plastic or metal, but that's not the case. All of our wooden parts are milled to no less than 0.001" tolerance but the material not only shrinks and swells with both humidity and tem...
