Nice. Another example of mid '80s wavy Grovers.

Amen! Never understood the grousing about binding. Good technique alleviates the problem 10 of 10 times.

Re: If Joe Osborn had played a Rick instead of that dumb Jaz

Nice tone and lines, for sure. And that's an Alesis 3630 compressor if I'm not mistaken? I read much malign about said unit online on other websites, but I've had one for 22+ years and love it so much I just bought a back-up. One needs to know how to properly use a compressor before one decides it i...

Re: How many of you use the Ric-O-Sound?

I do, although I don't always want to lug the second rig along. There are many different stereo cables out there for around $40 or less. You don't need a splitter box. Just run the stereo cable - I connect the two split cables to different effects which makes it easier to have a shorter split cable,...

Re: A Tweak too Far

Mouradian Guitars is on Main Street in Winchester, MA. I've been fortunate to have Jim and his son Jon do various work for me over the past three years. Jim is a Rick fan; I believe he has a '72 4001. I cannot recommend them enough. The only rub is that they are so good that there is typically a 4-8...

Re: 4003 bridge saddle issues

I would give reversing the G and E saddles a try. As Jeff says, they are not symmetrical, so you'll need to rotate them 180 degrees. Since the E saddle notch is cut a bit off-center closer to the A string, when you rotate it into proper orientation for use as a G saddle, it will bring your G string ...

Re: Dallas/Austin recommendations

Never been to Dallas, but I've been to Austin. Music stores were closed when I was there, but my experience walking down 6th street was to notice that every club had a blues band that was trying to or was sounding like Stevie Ray Vaughan. My vote is to weigh the quality of the music against the pric...

Re: Help id'ing a bass

The wavy Grovers seemed to show up again at the end of the 4001 production (early-mid 80s), but do I see red side dots or is that a trick of the light?

Re: Book launch event(s)

I would also like to use this event as an opportunity to sell off "most" of my Rickenbacker basses. Call me crazy, but I am of the opinion that I should no longer "Bogart" these lovely instruments. I'm no longer in a band, I haven't played much in the past couple of years, and d...

Re: Too many Rickenbackers too little time

Nice 4000! A question about these that I've been wondering about for a while. Does the 4000 sound just a like a 4001 if you solo the bridge PU? Or is the cap removed so it sounds like a 4003 with the bridge PU soloed? Or does it sound different and why?

Re: Ric-o-sound variations

When using RIC-o-Sound, I use pedals in line as a matter of practicality. My stereo cable isn't long enough to accomodate the amount of cabinet separation I typically need, so the pedals act as cable lengtheners as well as tone changers. That said, I've run the same pedals via an effects loop in a s...

Re: Some Fretless Questions

Next question - once I fit the toaster, would its output be compatible with that from the existing hi-gain pup in the bridge position, or should I also consider replacing that with a horseshoe? I find the high-gain and the toaster to blend fine. The outputs aren't identical, but very compatible to ...
