Re: Kinda quiet

My Feb '74 4001 clean up/refret is expected back very soon. I'll make sure I start a thread on that! :D

Re: RIP Lemmy Kilmister

The Rickenbacker site homepage now has a cool photo of Lemmy, replacing the other great Ricky loss from 2015, Chris Squire.

Re: Strap Button Loose - Solutions?

I've had this on both mine, simplest fix I've found is to wrap a little white plumbers tape (the PTFE stuff) around the thread and screw it back in. The tape provides sufficient friction to prevent the strap buttons undoing themselves (even with a tight fitting strap gripping them) but not so much ...

Strap Button Loose - Solutions?

The strap button (the one on the bottom of the bass) keeps unscrewing itself on my April '74 4001.

Any tips on what I can do to prevent this? Bit worried it'll happen - and potentially fall out - during a practice/gig!

Re: RIP Lemmy Kilmister

Heard this on the radio first thing. Devastated. I'm another 'Ricky because of Lemmy' players - became a fan at 13 in 1987, and never looked back. The crushing bass tone, and the look....I just had to have one! I've loved all their records, seen a few gigs, and was planning to go again. Bands and ta...

Re: Schaller Tuners

Looks that way to me. Guess this was a regular mod in the 70's as a Grover replacement? They certainly look like they've been on there since the mid-70's!

Re: Schaller Tuners

I should add that they actually resemble the standard Ric stamped tuners as well.

Re: Schaller Tuners

The one I've seen, a Feb '74, has the back of the tuners actually stamped Schaller, just like the current 4003 ones are branded Ric!

They also have been on the bass for many years. :D

Schaller Tuners

When did Rickenbacker fit Schaller tuners to 4001's in the '70s? Did they ever fit them in '74 alongside the Grovers?

I've read a mix of theories, if stocks were running short! :D

Re: Early 80's Hardcase?

The silver vintage style are quite hard to find - out of stock from where I've looked - they seem to around £219 ($331) new. So as mine is mint and unused, I'm guessing at a ball park of £175 ($265)? Even the modern black ones new are £200 ($300)! In an ideal world, I'd keep it - but I need ...

What do you think the price of an early 90s case is?

That's if it's not early 80s.....

Re: Early 80's Hardcase?

So we're pretty much looking early 90s....

I guess the value of a case of that era is similar to just any modern case? Probably just worth keeping rather than moving on?

I was going to flip it to fund some work, but it's newer than I was told! :D
