NGD 360W!
New member here.
Just picked up my recently ordered 360W 6 string from my dealer!
I must say, the wood grain and finish on this one is just fantastic. An beautiful and unusual center stripe area on the front.
Plays and sounds great through my Carr Sportsman!
Terrible first picture...sorry.

Congratulations Michael, and welcome to the Forum.
Watch those teeth, Marlin. I'm not sure we've properly sedated the beast . . .

Re: NGD 360W!
Nice figure on that walnut! Hopefully these walnut guitars will stay in the catalog!
Is the wood bookmatched on the top?

If you mean the twotone wood on the headstock, yes.
As beautiful as this guitar is, I have some concerns about trying to keep it clean. I don't mean wear and tear, I expect that.
I am more concerned about dirt. The body, neck, and fretboard seem to be almost unfinished. I have never owned a guitar with such a natural finish.
Can someone with a W series or similar chime in on how to care for this finish? Do I put oil or something else on it?
Re: NGD 360W!
Use Tung Oil on Walnut finishes. You give it a gentle hand rub it and buff as needed!
Does a great job on my 380pz.

Great, thanks.Rubsoul wrote:Use Tung Oil on Walnut finishes. You give it a gentle hand rub it and buff as needed!

What about the neck and fretboard? Those seem somewhat unfinished as well.
Re: NGD 360W!
Yes, they are also oil finished. Use a nylon stocking and it will help buff it and give it a nice shine. I have a 380PZ and a 330W/6. Love the natural look.

Should the girl be in the stockings when the guitar is being buffed?
Re: NGD 360W!
Further research show there is 100% Tung Oil and Tung Oil Finish (varnish). I prefer the natural and don't mind the upkeep.Rubsoul wrote:Use Tung Oil on Walnut finishes. You give it a gentle hand rub it and buff as needed!

So I should buy and use 100% Tung Oil then??
Thanks for the replies everyone.
Re: NGD 360W!
The tung oil has been working well for me on my 380L/PZ and now on the 330W, although the wood seems fine on the new 330W so really haven't given it much of rubdown yet. I believe there is something about the care of the Walnut finish on the brochure that comes with the guitar. You can also download it here:
http://www.rickenbacker.com/pdfs/manual.pdf
It say:
Oil Finish Maintenance
Beyond routine cleaning, the best
way to maintain a hand rubbed oil
finish (as seen on Rickenbacker
Models 650D, 650S, and some
older models), is with Tung oil and
a 3M Scotch-Brite™ Ultra Fine
Hand Pad (#7448.)
Using small amounts of oil at a
time, wipe down the instrument
until there is a relatively uniform
coating on the surface of the guitar.
Going with the wood grain, use the
Scotch-Brite™ pad to lightly sand
the surface until it begins to take
on its original silky smooth feel.
Before setting the instrument aside
to dry, use a clean, lint free cloth to
wipe down any excess oil or grit.
Allow 8 – 12 hours for proper
drying.
This procedure can also be per-
formed using ultra fine, light or gray
colored sandpaper. A minimum
grade of 1200 should be used to
avoid damaging the surface of the
wood. It is also important to avoid
black sandpaper, as the residue is
likely to stain the instrument as the
oil sets in.
Use of steel wool is not recom-
mended as the ferrous residue
can cling to pickups. Particles of
this residue can also become
suspended in the finish and rust
over time
But I still use nylons. (will have to explore having the girl in the nylons idea further!! )
Have fun!!

Are you using 100% Pure Tung Oil on your 380L/PZ?manta wrote:The tung oil has been working well for me on my 380L/PZ and now on the 330W, although the wood seems fine on the new 330W so really haven't given it much of rubdown yet. I saw the care and maintenance in the RIC manual, but it did not say Pure or 100% Tung Oil. There seems to be a huge difference and a lot of opinion on the matter. Harder to find the Pure Tung Oil, but I think I am going to order it online and give that a try.
