I agree regarding the 4x10s, Peter. We have a parallel thread going over on The Byrds where I mentioned that my next aquisition might be the mighty RI Super Reverb. There's something about the clarity and sparkle [for laque of a technical explaination] of four 10's. 8)

Has anyone tried a Ric with a Laney amp? I have an LC15R which had a beautiful clean chiming sound when used with my Telecaster, I was just wondering if it would sound as good with a Ric 330 or 360...

Also, has anyone used an EHX Deluxe Memory Man with a 330 or 360? If so, how did it sound? I imagine the delay and chorus or vibrato would be quite a good match for a semi-acoustic.

Steven.

I have a '65 Twin Reverb RI ...that with a janglebox (put both 'Gain' and 'Attack' at about the 2 o'clock position), add your
fav Ric 12 ...this _will_ get you the Byrds sounds :)

Just gave myself a Christmas present of a Deluxe Reverb Reissue. Was fooling around tonight getting used to the amp and burning in the tubes with my 370/12. It was amazing. Got great chime and jangle without any pedals or effects. Set the amp on the second channel with volume and reverb at 4. Tremelo set at moderate speed and intensity and away I went. Will try the Janglebox on channel 2 and the POD (in the clean channel 1) later. Great amp for all my guitars but I was pleasantly surprised with the way the Ric sounded on its own.

Thanks for checking out the YT videos! I have just purchased a 10 year old Fireglow 360-6 string and I installed two new Vintage Toaster Pickups in it tonight. I made a video of the installation process and may put it up on You Tube for those who wish to see how to do this. It's easy! I'm not the greatest guitarist by any stretch...but I love my two Rickenbackers! ;-) -BC

mcd220 wrote:Hi Guys- Am getting back to playing music more seriously again, and would LOVE to hear input from you guys on what ya'll are running your guitars through.

I'm looking for basically a bedroom amp; something I can take to "Living room jam sessions", nothing too large or serious at this point. On a tight budget, so looking for the best value per sound quality I can find.

Something that will deliver a good "Byrds jangle"; I'm playing a Ricky Carl Wilson 12 string with the Janglebox enroute. ALSO; what about amps w/onboard modelling vs. an economy multi effects pedal, and what kind of multi effects are good ones for the money??

Les Fradkin mentioned to me, that for recording, he goes straight to the board, with the Janglebox and Vox Tone Lab pedal enroute. This does seem to be the standard for recording Ricky-12's; I believe this is how Roger has done it since at least "Back from Rio"?

But yeah; need something that I can play around on, that's going to sound reasonable. Don't need to make a ton of racket, or fill up Carnegie Hall, etc. :-)

In "Old school terms", something between a Fender Champ, and a Twin Reverb, I'm thinking.

Been out of the loop for so long, there is so much to look at it!

And something that will also do justice for "Six string twang & rock" as well. If I plug in an Epiphone Casino, Tele, ES-335, etc, still get a "Justice" sound.

A good, all-around reasonable, not too large amp.

Don't ask me what I'm playing through right now, as I'm far too embarrassed to tell you. :-(

Thanks in advance,

Christian

It is a really great bedroom amp.I have the cheapest one with the Wharfdale speaker and I think it sounds great. You already got the Janglebox so you are all sett to go.I got mine at Guitar Center and they gave me 10% discount.

admin wrote:Welcome Buddy. I too love the sound of the 4 X 10 Fender Hot Rod Deville. What is it about a 4 X 10 Combo that provides a very different tone compared to the 2 X 12?
A Hot Rod DeVille 410 is a very nice amp, but loud (60W - tube) and heavy (50lbs). Lot's of clean headroom, but it's no bedroom practice amp IMHO; I've tried it and never got the volume up to 2 for any length of time. If you want to get the tubes glowing, you're going to have to invest in a Marshall Power Break, THD Hotplate or something similar. If you want a Fender sound in a smaller package, I'd recommend a Hot Rod Deluxe (40W, 1x12, 45 lbs), or a Blues Jr (15W, 1x12, 31 lbs). If you're looking for 12 string chime, I don't think you can go wrong with a Vox. I've played a c63 through an AC-30 with Blues and thought I was in heaven. I also loved the way it sounded when I pulled an Eric Johnson Strat off the wall and plugged it in. The AC-30 is heavy - 70lbs or so IIRC. I've heard several folks on this forum say great things about their Vox AC-15. I think the best advice I could give is to take your guitar and Janglebox down to the local GC and play through everything they've got on the floor. Then pick the size, price, tone package you want.

Peter I'm no expert, and I may be just stating the obvious, but the slightly smaller speaker diameter makes a significant difference to me. The top end is much brighter and bass is tighter, though not as deep as the 212. I'm sure one of the Forum Physicists could explain exactly why....

You know I love the combination of my Hot Rod Deville 4-10 with the Rickenbacker 360-12, but as stated earlier by another member, it's not a bedroom amp. My two complaints about that amp is it is very heavy(way more than 50 lbs I think) and very loud! I am going to look into a power soak or similar device soon. Still, it get a nice sound. Though I'm not an expert player of a Rickenbacker(or any other guitar for that matter) check out some of the videos I did and hear the combination of guitar/amp for yourself. -BC
