I love the look on his face when he first starts to play.
You can see that he knows everybody watching will be thinking... "What the F* is that??!!"

Different one?

Isn't that the same 341/12 JG that Roger owned from new? (I think Scott Jennings had it awhile back) ?

Probably the only one of it's kind too. Nice video, it's one of the best videos of a working original Lightshow out there, IMO.

No kidding? Yep, it's probably the rarest Lightshow out there. They may have only made two lightshow models, and IIRC, this is the only three pickup model.....AND, I mislabeled the guitar, it's a 371/12 (?) because it also has slanted frets. It's probably a good candidate for weirdest Rickenbacker ever.

Here's a good scanned picture of it with Transonic amp, taken from a Jan. 1992 issue of Guitar Player ("Teisco Del Rey's list of 25 off-the-wall guitars")

Roger McGuinn had a couple 331 models at one point...

Cool! Thanks for the photo, definitely the most interesting LS guitar.

Yes, the lightshow is very cool, and the performance is good, but McGuinn's vocals are weak to me. I know; I couldn't do better, that's for sure, but the immediacy of the original is lost here. This song blew the doors off when it first came out. So different from anything ever done.

But to my dissatisfaction: First of all, RM does not come close to replicating the Coltrane wall of sound he was trying to emulate and the vocals are good, but not as sweet as on the original. Crosby really did matter to these guys.

I have the Byrds boxed set sitting two feet from me. I listen to it regularly. Listening to it now.

But yeah; very cool overall; and this thread really is about the guitar, so hey; fair enough.
Can we have everything louder than everything else?

Ah, very cool! I was hoping somebody else would want a 12 string Lightshow conversion sooner or later (I can't be the only guy who thinks it's a good combo!). :)

The 12 strings seem to make the lights react differently than on the six-strings. A bit more random, plus the natural playing style of a 12 string (plucking instead of hard chords), is great for picking out one specific color or another.

It is a 341/12 SF, no binding exists on this one. It was in the RRHOF for years but Roger has it back and has used it recently, IIRC...

Very odd and cool guitar. Perhaps it should be called a 342/12 LS due to the slant frets?

Man, Graham---once again I shake my fist at you! :P

That is probably 10 times it's listed price or more these days.........sometimes I question why I was just to young to get into the game a few years earlier!
