Re: The elusive Harngelb yellow???
That ain't yellow, Craig...it's sort of a baby s**t brown color. And Buick for '72 didn't have a color called "Sandalwood"... although it did have a number of browns and tans (remember, this was the bell-bottom era). But only one yellow, and it was Sunburst.
Re: The elusive Harngelb yellow???
I had a 1972 Corvette and the color was "War Bonnet Yellow".
I had it repainted "Bridgehampton Blue".
That's all I have to say about that.

I can think of very very few cars that should be yellow, and they're certainly not Corvettes (despite all the old guys I see who think otherwise).
Now Lambos on the other hand......ostentatious without paint at all----work just fine in yellow.
ps...sorry for continued thread drift.

Re: The elusive Harngelb yellow???
I just looked up "Corvette war bonnet yellow". Interesting, it reminds me of the ochre giallo on a '66 Alfa I once owned. I like it on the Corvette. But I don't like it in sunflower yellow.Danotron wrote:I had a 1972 Corvette and the color was "War Bonnet Yellow".

Re: The elusive Harngelb yellow???
I never understood "war bonnet" for yellow.
For that matter I really don't understand Harngelb either.

That one's easier: ask a German.Danotron wrote:For that matter I really don't understand Harngelb either.
Re: The elusive Harngelb yellow???
I thought the whole urine-yellow guitar thing was a joke? Possibly as a reference to the colour that the early 80's white Rickenbackers turned to after a few years?
But stranger things have happened, and the next colour of the year could well be Schleimgrün, which has been developed to hide the green rash from the cases.

Well, those with infinitely more knowledge on the subject than I have seem to be saying it was an official factory finish designation. It will certainly have started off as an inside joke though.Mateybob wrote:I thought the whole urine-yellow guitar thing was a joke? [pedantic-linguist]The Germans usually refer to snot and bogies as being yellow so "Schleimgelb" is probably more likely. They also turn yellow with envy. Just plain colour-blind if you ask me! I do quite fancy the sound a new 330 in Kackbraunglo though.

I bought the car in Germany too! I think the colour is "Ananas" (pineapple) which was used for a limited run of cars which the Hertz car rental company had on the road for two years with Haribo sponsorship. Apparently the car was originally covered with Gummi bear pictures. The foot mats still have the Haribo logo and pictures of little coloured bears on them.leftybass wrote:THIS was the color of the German-market 4001that was discussed here a while back.ricardo_vicente wrote:Here's my very own Harngelb Opel Agila ...collin wrote: I can think of very very few cars that should be yellow,
