360/12

Post by fireglo67 »

After not playing it for a few months, I've just gone back to my 360/12, but it feels like I'm having to learn to play guitar from scratch again!
I've got it set up with standard Rickenbacker 10's and a reasonably low action.
Would moving to a lighter guage/different type of string help the playability?
I use this guitar purely for rhythm playing, so I'm only strumming chords and not having to bend strings etc.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Rob.

I vote for keeping the 10s, Rob. Play some every day. I'd venture to guess you'll have your chops back in a reasonable amount of time.

Rickenbacker 10's are fairly light anyway and are even good for the occasional half-step bends. I would stick with your current setup until you get used to them again.

Try a set of those TI Flats that POTR sells, I think you'll like the way they feel. Not sure if they ship to the UK, but you could always put a prop on Scottys backside and sail him over!

If you don't like the 10s after a reasonable period of reacquaintance, you could tray a .009 set, or the .008 Ernie Ball set that I favor; I bought mine for ease of doing bends though, so you might find those too light. I love them.

Right paul with some sacrafice in tone but if youre playing a gig for 2 hours your fingers will thank you. Besides with the modern amps of today you can tweek the tone to get it where you want.

Not for everyone, but you can try tuning to Eb and use a capo, in addition to the aforementioned lighter strings.

McGuinn does it!

Everyone has to find there nitch. That is, what they are comfortable playing as far as setup. So try 9s if that is still no good after playing 2 hour sets then try 8s you have to play what works for you. There are a lot of people that cant play my guitars because I set my action down the board with no relief straght, And I tell them I dont set my guitars up for anybody else I set them up for me.
