Rickenbacker 660 Accoutrements

Post by sangandongo »

Hi guys,

It's been a long time since I was in the ranks (at least from a guitar perspective. I've had a 4001 for ages and ages). Anyhow, I just picked up a 2012 660/6 for $1600. I believe I already know the answer to my following question, but I'd like a confirmation.

Do 660s ever come out of the factory with white plastic hardware? One way or another, I don't care, as I think it looks damn near perfect, but I thought I'd ask a more knowledgeable resource.

IIRC, all 660's leave the RIC factory with gold pickguards and gold TRC's.

Perhaps a previous owner preferred the look of white and switched it out.

Congrats on a GREAT guitar!! I recently purchased one in MG (a 2012 also) for use in my current band, and our lead guitar player is THRILLED with it.
Watch those teeth, Marlin. I'm not sure we've properly sedated the beast . . .

Matt's got it right; the plastic was switched out.

Love the 660, I added the accent vibrato and a roller bridge.

I have small hands, but find the 660 easier to play than the 360.
The thin body on it makes it nice and different from my other guitars.

The wider spacing probably actually helps you play it easier.

Odds are indeed that the plastic was swapped after it left the factory.

But I do recall seeing at least one - a 660/12 - that came from RIC with the white plastic.

So never say never as they say.... :D

I think it looks great with the White myself, and would likely do the same mod if I ever ended up with a 660.

That color looks much better with white plastic.

Thanks for the input, everyone. I agree that it looks much better. I was clued in because the TRC screwed weren't flush with the plastic and couldn't be torqued down further without digging more wood. It made me remember the thickness of the silk screened hardware.

I think the white plastic would look better with Maple Glo--not enough contrast for me. But I like the gold on the others.

Gold definitely doesn't work on all colors, but white does. Superb with Ruby!

One of the reasons I bought the Ruby/Gold was that I liked the gold.
My other Ricks have white, this one is different and looks good.

The gold goes good with the flake in the Ruby.
