Post by bowser2533 »

What are the difference between a c63/12, and a v64/12?

The V Series ran from the mid 80's to around 2000-ish. Soon after, the C Series was introduced, the idea being to revamp the vintage reissue line to be even more accurate, like phillips screws instead of flathead, etc. Some of the big differences on this model include the TRC shape, the spray pattern of the fireglo finish, and the color of the neck side dot markers. I'm sure others will chime in with more things.

The C63 is X-braced ,has a slightly different body shape, head stock shape ,inlays, fingerboard radius is 7 1/4 on the C63 the V64 had a modern 10" radius IIRC.
Slash soundhole is smaller too, pickguard seems different ,although that could be the placement of the bridge pickup.
Toasters are scatterwound 7.5K, the V64 had 11 or 12K.

All a matter of taste I guess. Although I am somewhat of a traditionalist when it comes to Rickenbackers, whenever I see these guitars side by side I always like the V64s better just by the looks. Especially the finishes of the early examples are just great.

As mentioned, the C63 is X-braced. The V64 is solid through the center of the body. FWIW, I've got a 2000 360/12V64 and it came with the lower output toasters, so that changed happened prior to the model change.

I purchased V64 about 1year ago and love it. Swapped the p/u out with the 7.4s made a huge difference. Left the 6 saddle bridge on and it intonated perfect, right on the money. Its my # 1 Rick 12. Thank you guys so much for your input. Happy Holidays. Gary

If the C63 didn't have all the goofy Harrison features, I'd have been all over one years ago.
