Rick-O-Sound wiring variations - say bass vs guitar

Post by 4000 »

FWIW, I just happened to notice that the bass & treble outputs on the stereo (TRS) output can differ between various models.

Say this one http://www.rickenbacker.com/pdfs/19507.pdf

vs this one http://www.rickenbacker.com/pdfs/19502.pdf

For instance looking at the bass-PU output, one one it appears on the Ring, for the other on the Tip of the R-O-S output jack.

Not meant as nitpicking, just happened to see it. Wondering if there could be any reason behind it.

Perhaps a drawing error w.r.t. the real wiring, haven't checked, or it might just not be done in a standard way, all fine.

Weird! I wonder if the 5th knob makes the difference.

No, the 5th won't matter here, it's just on which terminal of the stereo/TRS jack-connection the signal of each pickup emerges.

I just had a look at two schematics for this so far and found them to differing in this respect. No idea the divide is between basses & guitars, (didn't check), or that it can differ among say the guitars as well.

FWIW that is; it's pretty much a moot point I figure, since there are sure people using R-O-S, but not that many as I understood - let alone that they use it in a swap-several-instruments-fashion. But still, thought I'd mention after having observed it.

My guess it is just a typo.

That'd be most likely.

I'll see what I find when checking the actual wiring of mine.

I've always wired the bridge pickup to the tip, and the neck to the sleeve on all Ricks I've wired. That's the way I'd always seen it done previously.
