There's 46 new listings for Rickenbacker guitars on eBay from Japanese dealers.

Has anyone here purchased one? What was your experience?

Past holdings: 1968 4005, Blackstar, 3000, CS, Alembric, Tuxedo, 360-12, Blackstar, 360-12, 1982 4003, Shadow, 4003 SnowGlow, CS in that order.

Some of these sellers are major retailers (such as Ishibashi), and they will have excellent and extensive customer support. Others are small firms or individuals. For the latter, check feedback as you would for any ebay seller. I have bought a number if instruments from a variety of Japanese sellers via ebay and directly and have never had a negative experience.

I have noticed the ask on some ebay listings are a tad inflated relative to the direct offerings on some larger seller's websites. It may pay to do a little research.

These are some sellers worth checking:

Ishibashi
Kurosawa
Guitar Shelter
Nico Nico
Hyper Guitars

Ishibashi and Kurosawa will pretty much always have some used Rickenbackers in stock. The others will have the odd Rickenbacker from time to time. Hyper specialises in more vintage stuff.

Remember that shipping from Japan should be around USD150. I don't believe you will have any CITES or import duty issues (assuming you're in the USA), but you may need to check.

Plus, Kurosawa made some great films, too.
