Purple

Post by Non Musical Hack »

Has Rickenbacker produced a purple guitar?

There was a local Craigslist ad where the guitar looked like Midnight Blue. The seller said it was purple to him.

A half-assed google search shows the Deep Purple bassist played a Blue Rickenbacker.

Thanks.

Walter, please do a search on the Rickenbacker Register for the Purpleburst finish.

The topcoat clear conversion varnish can darken over time. I wonder if it is a midnight blue that is aging to purple. I have had several items of various manufacture, including my Dad's letter sweater, that started out blue and turned purple over time.

Scott, a good point and a likely explanation beyond the factory purplebursts that were made and the custom after-market refinishes.
