NGD: 1982 330 Jetglo
I haven't had a Rick 6-string in a little while - picked up this really cool one off The Gear Page:
I posted a lot of photos and videos of this guitar on my Instagram.
It's from June 1982 and was completely stock when I got it, including the case, the original "box" Grover tuners, and the ridiculously mismatched (resistance-wise) pickups.
I swapped the bridge pickup for the neck pickup and shunted the .0047 cap. The bridge pickup sounds HUGE now, the neck pickup is far more clear and articulate, and both positions are matched perfectly, output-wise. You can hear the before-and-after via a series of videos on my Instagram linked above.
The neck is quite large, and the guitar is heavily braced. This guitar is a gig-ready tank!
It is exactly like Johnny Marr's and is likely from the same production year (Johnny first used his in June of 1983 - thanks to Thom / Smiths On Guitar for that info).
Mitch Easter's famous Azureglo 330 is also from 1982, and I'll bet that Wendy Melvoin's 330s that she used with Prince are from 1982 / 1983 (Wendy had the pickups replaced with G&L pickups, among other mods).
Of course, Paul Weller and Peter Buck also used and abused guitars from this era.
It's no wonder that so many of these players were able to tour relentlessly with these instruments - they are so solidly built.

All right!!!!!!!
Re: NGD: 1982 330 Jetglo
Nice!
Feels like a tank I expect with the extra thick top.
Lovely.

What a beauty, congrats. I'm surprised the neck is large, I've played some from that era that weren't overly big.

Congrats John. Seventies and early eighties 330s are definitely it for me.
Johnny Marr’s is a 1983 btw.

This pair are both 1983 with box Grovers

Hi,
John it's beauty you've got here! I too have a 1982 Rick 330 JG like yours but it has Kluson tuners and toasters pickups (I am wondering if the first owner removed the Hi gains...).
Why it has a silver undercoat? Mine has nothing like this.
Cheers,
LS

Re: NGD: 1982 330 Jetglo
interesting post -- my 87 330 (white with black hardware) that I bought from a friend is a disappointment. The neck pickup is super crunchy and the bridge has a drop in volume and is general sans jangle. I am new the Rickenbacker guitar world, I thought this one would look good with my odd ball transonic amp. Is this swap a commonly known thing?

Gotta love a pair of black and white instruments together!
Here's mine (not guitars, sorry).
November '15 4004L SPC in Jetglo, and Sept '13 4004L Snowglo.
