Cost: 620 vs 330

Post by TownesVanZandt »

Hello:

Long time Rickie lover here with a quick question about value. I have been offered a straight up trade: my '97 330 for a '12 620. Which has more value? Are they similar? I so rarely see a 620 that I'm not sure.

Gratias!

They're both pretty common standard models. It would all come down to condition, finish, and whether someone prefers that 90's era (97 is borderline on neck thickness, IIRC) or the modern slightly more slim necks. Polepieces on the hi-gains will be adjustable on the newer one, so there is another difference.

Value is relative to the guitar’s condition and other details, but I’ll note that it’s easier to sell a 330. Most people consider that to be the more “classic” Rickenbacker model, semi-hollow etc.

Condition aside, the 330 is likely worth more than the 620.

How does the 660 compare in price to the 620 and the 330? Obviously 330s are more common - I have not been able to find many 660s out there anywhere, and the ones I see on ebay are all over $2000. Reverb is similar. Does the fact that the 600 models are not as common as the 330 increase their price? Anyone have this experience?

660s are more expensive for a number of reasons - checker binding, scatterwound toaster pickups, plexi TRC. trapeze, etc. things that add up cost-wise. Not to mention, 660s usually have the best figured maple, too. They are great guitars, I used to have a 660/12 and a 75th Anniversary 660 years ago, before I decided I was really an acoustic kind of guy for guitar.
