New (to me) 360v64, Modding It

Post by El Fug »

Hi there. I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this.

I recently bought a 360v64 from 1997. It's a fantastic guitar as is, but I'm keen on making a few changes to it. It's equipped with the high-output toasters -- I've already purchased a pair of the vintage spec ones. I've also purchased an Accent Vibrato unit from Winfield Music.

Here are my questions:

I really love the sound of the '60s Ricks that I've played (and also heard on record). It's my understanding that the .0047 cap on the bridge pickup is essential to getting the sound right. I purchased a cap from Pick of the Ricks. However they have two options: 80 volt and 400 volts. I purchased the 80 volt one hoping that that's the correct one, but I really have no idea. So, which one is it?

My other question is this: I live in Los Angeles. I'm planning on taking the guitar to my normal tech to do these mods. He's an excellent tech, and since these are all very minor tweaks, I think all should be good. But Rickenbackers are different enough beasts that, going forward, I'm wondering if anybody knows of a Rick specialist in the general Southern California area.

Thank you!

Considering the output from any guitar pickup, not just toasters, is measured in millivolts (OK - EMG actives advertise output of 1 to 2 volts, depending on the model and which preamp), the smaller capacitor not only works, but is smaller physically to fit better in the space allotted for it.

Before Radio Shack went out of the parts business, I used to get the small discs rated at a few volts for less than $1.00 for a pair.

Great, thank you! My understanding of electronics is seriously lacking, so thank you for setting me straight.

Fug, I will buy your hot toasters if you don't want them.

I replied to your PM, or at least I attempted to. We can probably work something out.
