660/12 ????

Post by 3bound »

I've been hoping the 360 12 (Jet Glo) would eventually get the wider nut width - still no luck after many years of hoping.

I really want to give the 660/12 a try, in Jet Glo - preferably
The size looks really comfortable to play.

What strings are you using on yours?
Flats on rounds?
Light or medium Gauge?

Anyone know what string Type and Gauge Rickenbacker ships new with?

Well I just found this one and bought it.
Hopefully I'll have it next week. Couldn't find any 660/12's locally.

I also have been looking at one of these. Have never owned one but would like to. Sadly, there are not enough of them on Reverb or Ebay for me to get a good idea of what they normally go for. Anyone buy one recently?

I liked flatwounds on my 660/12 - these guitars are very bright as it is due to the solid body and scatterwound toasters.

Two sources of historical price information:

1. The Rickenbacker Register on this forum - there is a Register Menu in the top (red) bar which has a dropdown menu with a link to a Rickenback Pricelist. You can search the price list by type of instrument. My search for 660/12 in the Solidbody section yielded this:

http://www.rickresource.com/register/in ... =0&lefty=0

The average price was $2,038 and the Median was $1,995.

You can even get a chart:
one year price history - 660/12
one year price history - 660/12
2. You can search for recently sold listings on eBay - click on the link for "Advanced" next to the Search box, then check the "Sold" box on the Advanced Search page, then click Search.

A Fireglo 660/12 sold for $1,950 on August 16 and a Mapleglo 660/12 sold for $2,199 on September 20.

You can probably do a bit better if you can find one locally on craigslist.

Exactly right Clement. That's why we have developed this database. Thanks for the image.

I got extremely lucky a couple years ago and picked up my 660/12 Fireglo from Musician's Friend as an "open box" "scratch & dent" purchase. The OLNY issue with it was the lower pick guard was cracked by an over tightened screw. I got an OEM replacement from CME for $60.0US. The Total cost" $1,723.36 right into my arms. Brand new. With warranty. FWIW (lol).

I know I got very lucky. It was just a random, wine infused search after midnight one January night and a spontaneous spur of the moment email for a price quote.

BTW, LOVE. LOVE. LOVE the guitar. My '19 R9 gets jealous.
