So weird - I used to break 8's all the time stringing up to G, but 10s never! Truly YMMV!

The string would usually break when tuning up to the right octave. So it could be a matter of string brand (some .10s can't handle the tension of being tuned that high), but .08s were an easy solution. Definitely YMMV!jdogric12 wrote:So weird - I used to break 8's all the time stringing up to G, but 10s never! Truly YMMV!
I have owned many 12 strings and although the octave G is most prone to snapping when tuning to pitch, I've never had an issue with repeated breaks, it usually only would happen if I was tuning up, not paying attention, and went too far past the G. Maybe you've got a burr on your saddle or nut?jdogric12 wrote:So weird - I used to break 8's all the time stringing up to G, but 10s never! Truly YMMV!
No, this was over many years and many guitars.akpasta wrote:I have owned many 12 strings and although the octave G is most prone to snapping when tuning to pitch, I've never had an issue with repeated breaks, it usually only would happen if I was tuning up, not paying attention, and went too far past the G.
