Rose Morris 91 vs 360V64 94 vs 1966 335
Hi Folks
Thanks in advance for the help.
I’m buying a 360V64/6 or a Rose Morris and would like to know which one you’ll choose and what are you happy with.
I’m playing beatles in a cover band by now with a gretsch (Lennon part) but I also play Tom Petty, and rythm for some British pop
Both are similar price. There is also a 1966 335 at around that price. So that could be also an option. It’s a bit difficult to decide.
I’m playing with a 1964 Vox and a 65 Princeton reverb.
I do appreciate your comments!!

Which model Rose Morris, 1996, 1997, 1998? I'm partial to the double binding on the 360v64, but I do like the "F" sound hole on the Rose Morris models.
I own a 1997 model and the neck is very narrow, but it is a 6 string so it plays very nice for my preference.
The 1996 model is a short scale neck (Lennon 325 Style) and you have to use heavy gauge strings to keep it in tune.
All nice guitars though, good luck with your choice!

I vote 360V64. Mine was a very nice guitar, and it sounded wonderful through my old early '70s Princeton Reverb Amp that had been modded with a Celestion G12M-70 a few decades ago.
Disregard all that other stuff in this photo and concentrate on the Princeton Rreverb Amp. I know, kind of hard to do, isn't it?
Sorry, the 360V64 is not in this photo,

Thanks Paul!
Was your V64 loaded with high gain toasters or a latest model with 7.4k pickups?
Are the Rose Morris 90s models similar sounding as the V64?

It’s virtually the same guitar if you ignore cosmetic stuff like inlays and binding, soundhole shape etc.Bulto wrote:Thanks Paul!

All reissue models in this era had “hot” toasters (12k or so), including the V64 and 1997 reissues. Same internal body construction and bracing etc.
Without seeing any of these, my vote would be for the 1997 reissue. But seriously give that ‘66 335 a test drive too, you’ll find the specs and sound are drastically different from either reissue models.

Collin I am with you and in the 1997 camp. My close friend has this model and it has the tone and the look of the British era.collin wrote:It’s virtually the same guitar if you ignore cosmetic stuff like inlays and binding, soundhole shape etc.Bulto wrote:Thanks Paul!

Re: Rose Morris 91 vs 360V64 94 vs 1966 335
Thanks both Peter and Collin.
So if both have toaster 12k is just about the look and the price
Unfortunately I can’t try those models and though I’m a vintage guitar man playing mainly with a 66 SG I’m a bit concerned about vintage Ricks. I’m an ignorant about Ricks and there are too many models.
Anyway These are the models I am considering. I can get USA market or Europe
I need a Ric to play all types like beatles Petty and classic rock rythm. I think hoy toasters could go better with my amps than older lower output pups. But not sure though. I can reach to 3.5/4K and if I’m lucky maybe to 6K but maybe a Reissue it’s just enough...
This is my band... we were then more on an American flavour..

I’m also GAS with this one if I can reach to 4.5K and if you think it’s worth (but bit overpriced):

Jejeje
Do both Morris and V64 have same radius and width fingerboard?

What model of RICk are the Rose Morris?
335? 330? I’m a bit lost!

Re: Rose Morris 91 vs 360V64 94 vs 1966 335
Okay - there is a lot to learn here with Rickenbacker nomenclature.Bulto wrote:BtW

335? 330? I’m a bit lost!
In the 60s, the management of Rose-Morris, Ltd. in England arranged a deal with Rickenbacker to become the official importer of Rickenbacker guitars. These had specifications requested to fit the tastes (and budget requirements) of UK buyers at that time.
These were all based on existing domestic-market Rickenbackers - all with a vibrato (so the last digit is always "5") indicating a vibrato model), and each received its own stock number in the Rose-Morris catalog:
325 = Rose Morris 1996
335 = Rose Morris 1997
345 = Rose Morris 1998
615 = Rose Morris 1995
330S/12 = Rose Morris 1993
4001S = Rose Morris 1999
So the Rose Morris 1997 is the UK equivalent of the domestic "335" model that you are also considering, from 1966.
When the reissues were offered starting in 1986, they could not use the term "Rose-Morris" so the guitar was issued as simply the "1997" and the "1997SPC" (three-pickup model).
Buy the 1997 reissue linked above (if you missed Graham's hint, he's the seller! He knows a thing or two about these guitars... ), it's a nice example.

Re: Rose Morris 91 vs 360V64 94 vs 1966 335
The "OS" means "Old Style," indicating the type of deluxe guitar Rickenbacker produced prior to late 1964 when the "New Style" (rounded-top) 360 models were introduced.Bulto wrote:Thanks Collin!

"OS" guitars were available as custom order throughout the 60s and early 1970s.
The 360V64 six-string model is essentially a reissue of a 360 "OS" model of the 1960s.
More specifically, the V64 model matches the specs closer of the early years (1961-1963), including a larger headstock shape and square neck heel). The internal bracing of the reissues is stronger than the x-braced internal construction of the 1960s guitars, but consequently lacks some of the resonance with the x-braced models. X-bracing was reintroduced with the C-series reissue models in the mid-2000s.
