What a "groovy" guitar....
I would like to see more of the 4005 lightshows.....there couldn't have been too many of those....

I've certainly never seen a 4005 LS. Would probably look great too, as the light-up circuit is more responsive to individual notes than chords.

Kenny, AWESOME job! I couldn't get the movie to download, but I will try it again. I love the Lightshows. One of those freaky, wierd abberations that I love about Ric.

Great story and restoration work. I remember reading a guitar mag in the mid 1980's and the "centerfold" was a 331 and I have been fascinated by them since. I just keep thinking that if I were to spurlge and buy one then I would play better. Kenny, does it work this way? BTW, is the neck on your 331 bound? Do all 331 have bound necks?

The neck on this guitar is reeeeeeally slim, like I like 'em; one could then theoretically say it makes one play better, if one is referring to oneself in the third person.
All 331s I've seen have bound necks with dot inlays. As the fingerboard was replaced on this one, I could have done it without binding but I stayed with tradition.

Very cool page you've posted. There should be a permanent link to it from Peter's main site. Since all the restoration work was done at RIC, it's still official. It would be cool if RIC displayed it in their booth at NAMM as a conversation piece (plus, I could then see it in the flesh).

Nyahh, I wouldn't bring it to NAMM - people would want us to take orders for it!
Maybe I'll bring it to Chicago sometime, I've been looking for an excuse to visit anyway.

1. What happens if you attack a normal 330 with a router to make 331 cutouts. Do you then have what Kenny started with, or will the guitar crumple under string tension?
2. Why don't genuine 331s have dark walnut/shedua neck stripes?

Also, the body of the 331 is thicker than a regualr 300 Series guitar.
