Another SuperSonic b16 question

Post by RickinbackerAMPED »

I haven't been able to find much info on these amps. Were they bass only? I have a head without the cabinet, and the two large tubes that are missing are much larger than 12ax7's that the only schenatic I've found online says it's supposed to be,,,,,

Sure would appreciate any info. 1960's vintage?

I am not familiar with this amp, but I can tell you that the two missing tubes would be the power output tubes, something like 6L6GC or KT66, etc.

I'm surprised that this amp is so unknown. I agree these sockets look like 6L6 size. And it has two channels with 4 inputs. I'm thinking about seeing if I can fit some power tubes in it and hook it up to my Marshall cabinet......?

It has a cord hooked to a socket style plug. Like a big ol' DIN plug.,......It has two 1/4 females unmarked on the back. One has a bunch of leads hooked to it. the other one has just one wire connected to the other one.

I'd have to figure out the wiring to the speakers. And lord knows what ohms it supposed to drive.

Knobs are marked: Brilliance - Treble Boost - Bass Boost - 3Volume4 - 1Volume2

It has a 3 switches - a Hum switch, standby - and on/off.

Transformer is small.

Guess I oughta put up some pics.

According to the schematics found on the RIC web site it utilizes 6L6 tubes. http://www.rickenbacker.com/service_tube_schematics.asp

Pics: Do you think one of the 1/4 females on either side of the transformer could be a foot switch?
What's the other? Interesting sucha small transformer but two 6L6's. Wonder what'll sound like.

It is a little hard to tell from those pics but both of those 1/4" jacks are probably the speaker jacks.

That is the hot lead, the ground is through the chassis.

I have a b16a model (combo model), and while your control panel does not appear to have tremelo controls, it is a possibility that RIC produced their chassis all in the same manner. My amp has tremelo (it sounds awesome) and the foot switch jack is located on the bottom of the chassis towards the face of the amp.

What you show is the preamp section of a B16.
Hope you have the total amp.
The octal plug goes to the power amp
I have a basket project B16 chassis ,and someday will put it back into operating condition.
