Identify This Ricenbacher Electro Amp?

Post by jimmy_stewart »

Hi folks! I'm new to the forum here, and just wanted to say it's a great one! So glad I was able to find it!
Being a studio owner and guitar collector, I was presented last summer by my father-in-law's older brother a surprise. He gave me an old Rickenbacher combo he received as a child. I already own a NS lap top, and he gave me another, in the original case, along with this amp.
I have been having some difficultly in dating the amp, along with any model identification.
The amp is stamped (red lettering) in the open back with Rickenbacher Electro. The tube placements are also stamped in red as follows,
left to right, 6N7, 6V6, 5Z4. The amp appears to have a 6" or so speaker. The back of the speaker magnet is stamped the numbers E 34 73.
The amp is all metal case, no knobs at all, and a single jack input.
Just to let you all know, I'm not sure how long it has been since the amp was used or even turned on, so yesterday I finally got up the nerve to try it, and IT ACTUALLY WORKS!!!

I believe this amp was sold by Rickenbacher as part of a combo, guitar and amp. Can anyone tell me the model or other information on it?

OK, it is now 5-1/2 years after you asked your question, but better late than never, although this is pretty close to never. You might find the answer here: http://jzu.free.fr/rick/amp/3040.html. It looks like you have (had) a Model 59, made between around 1934 and 1946?.

There is a similar one for sale on ebay right now at http://cgi.ebay.com/Rare-1940s-Lunchbox ... 999.c0.m14
