So what will happen to the wood? I see Gibson lost their rights to it- does the gov't now auction it off? I would hope it would be used and not destroyed.

GIbson seem to be doing the right thing now, it's just a shame that they had to be jumped on hard to make that happen...

Apparently a Gibson employee went to Madagascar in 2008 and was told that the ebony was illegal to export. He relayed that information to his superiors, who did nothing. Oh wait, actually they did do something... They kept placing orders with their ebony supplier, a German company that imported ebony from Madagascar to ship over to Gibson.

Sounds like monkey business to me!

Legal or illegal says nothing about the actual impact the deforestation has on the local environment...

According to Henry Juszkiewicz's statement they get back some of it.
...An important part of the settlement is that we are getting back the materials seized in a second armed raid on our factories...

Given that it was illegal to buy, that is a very good question. Does the USG send it back to Madagascar or does it end up with some furniture makers in N. Carolina? :?

I wouldn't be at all surprised if it ends up in a government auction, just like a lot of "seized" items...

The report says that agents who went into the factory had to wear bullet proof vests.....That must be a dangerous place to work in
