Chas was the man, and there's a chance I may still be able to make the Hatch shell concert (mispelled it) it's a big outdoor concert, usually mobbed. Much as I love Rics and enjoyed seeing his 'new' bass player with a Ric I really think he should have used an Epi or an EB-2 for that authentic sound.

I have a drummer friend that met and jammed w/ Eric Burdon at a friend's house in L.a. some years ago. Burdon was friendly and open until my buddy told him what an animals fan he was. At that point burdon clammed up and acted very indifferent! Too bad...

Eric was the real bad boy of British rock (blues). More so than Jagger and the boys. HOTRS was very controversial in its day. Not only did it break the 3 minute or less rule established by the radio stations and agreed to by all major labels it also dealt with a topic that was taboo in the mainstream pop culture.

Great band and a great singer in my books. If memory serves me correct though substance abuse took it's toll over time.

Early Animals are my favorite.

I loved the Animals, especially the U.S. LP "The Animals On Tour." Not many of my friends shared my passion. I remember I got nasty looks when I brought my 45s to a party and the only slow song in the bunch was "House of the Rising Sun." They did a great version of "Boom Boom."

Ronn -- did you teach yourself to play upside down simply because it was hard to find a lefty bass? I'd have to change my whole way of thinking -- going "backwards" to play higher on a string that is "lower" if you can picture what i mean. I have new respect for you!

Steve, I know a similar story with a bass player friend that met Eric Clapton. Same thing -- clammed up and refused to speak to him.

I LOVE all The Animals stuff! Still see Eric when he tours.

One of the first Burdon/Price collaborations and the flip side (US) of a big single -- don't remember. Burdon said in his autobiography (get it!) that he had hoped that he and Alan Price would have nurtured a writing collaboration, but, it didn't because Price left the group all of a sudden, apparantly over taking all the money from "The House Of The Rising Song" profits. Price then said to the press that he left because he was afraid of flying.
