On the coast highway of Northern California, a bit north of Eureka, there is a place right off the highway that raises elk. Drivers can usually see the elk very well from the road, and most of the time there are cars parked along the highway with folks taking photos of them. You're right, they are big animals and not to be messed with, but they tend to leave if too many people are staring at them. Beautiful animals.
