RIP Buddy

Post by BuddyDog »

Sad day for me. Had to put my old companion (and moniker) Buddy to sleep today.

Buddy was a Parson Russell terrier that my wife & daughter gave me as a birthday present 16 years ago. He was so little when he came to us that he was not completly weaned.

Bud was a real trooper, loved to play, smart as a whip and sweet. He went with us when we moved from San Leandro to Colorado Springs and back to Fresno. When he was younger he could outrun all the dogs in the park except the Whippets. He was diagnosed with diabetes when he was 5 and the vet didn't think he would live past 7, but he hung in there. He developed cataracts, had surgery and after this long his eyesight and hearing eventually was lost (along with constant adrenaline dumps and arthritis). Poor old guy had so many health problems, but through it all was always my boy and always cheerful.

He had been declining for the last several months and finally was unable to walk this week.

I'll miss you pal.

Sorry to hear this, Steve. :( I know you loved him. It's really terrible to lose a friend, and I'm sure he loved you, too. Was he the inspiration for your username?

So sorry to hear that, Steve. We've been there too, you never get completely over it (which is a good thing, remembering a great companion), but it gets better as time goes on...

Yes Jake, he was the inspriration behind my user name.

Thanks to all for your kind thoughts. I know Kira recently went through the same thing with Tripper. On with the healing and remembering.

So sorry to hear that you've lost your good Buddy, Steve :(
If and when you're ready, there's another animal out there in need of love and care. I'm sure Buddy would appreciate that.

Sorry to hear that, Steve--my condolences.

16 years is a great life for any dog, so do consider he had a good, long life.

Hi Steve,

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. As an animal lover and having had a number of great canine friends in the past and present I know all about the pain that you feel. I currently own three Shuh Tzus myself and I don't even want to think about the day when they will eventually leave my wife and I. When a dog loves you it is unconditional. I often think about that when one of my three wants some attention and shows me love in return. They are precious little souls and their lives are far too short.

My deepest condolences.

I'm so sorry for your loss Steve. Those of us that have pets know how much these things hurt. My thoughts are with you.

Sorry to hear it, Steve. It sounds like you gave Buddy a good, long, and happy life. I've also been through the same thing and it is one of the hardest things to do. Hang in there.

This pic was taken at Monterey in 2004. Of course he immediately had to roll in the kelp afterward!
