I am looking at a 1968 345 it is mapleglo in color however I see black paint inside on the back of the guitar inside the fhole.
Anyone seen this before and why would it be there?

Re: 1968 345 question
Well, the obvious thing would be that the guitar was Jetglo originally, and I'd bet you'd find black paint under the nameplate as well.....and in the control cavity.......

Re: 1968 345 question
No black paint there only the inside / backside of back.
Re: 1968 345 question
I thought that even on jetglo Ricks there's never any paint in the soundhole.

Re: 1968 345 question
Perhaps someone painted the inside of the soundhole black to make it stand out.
Re: 1968 345 question
Normally that is the case, unless it was refinished to black at some point after it was ____glo. And as Kris said, it could have been touched up at some point too....1965 wrote:I thought that even on jetglo Ricks there's never any paint in the soundhole.
Re: 1968 345 question
I guess my point is that if the soundhole is black and the rest of it's now mapleglo, then we've really got no idea what color it originally was. Unless the TR route or control cavity give us some evidence.

Re: 1968 345 question
If someone refinished it, it's highly unlikely they would have taken the time to remove the overspray from the control or truss rod nut cavities. Whatever color you see there is most likely the original color.
