Wow.

"(EXC) The '68 Rickenbacker 370/12BYRD is indeed a rare.....well....bird! This fine example was acquired from the original owner who custom ordered it from Rickenbacker with specifications similar to Roger McGuinn's 370/12 except without the treble boost. The custom "BYRD" wiring features a master volume and three "slave" volume controls for each pickup, 3-way toggle for individual selection of each pickup, 3-way toggle tone selector offering heavy low-pass tone capacitance, medium low-pass capacitance and clean bypass, dual "parallel mono" output jacks. According to John Hall, CEO of Rickenbacker, the "BYRD" wiring was "...never a standard product and done only on a handful of custom guitars." This one owner guitar has been meticulously cared for and save for a couple of small dings and buckle marks (none that go through the finish) the instrument appears to have barely been played during its 40 years. As the Rickenbacker 370/12 was only available on a special order basis in the late-60s they can be very hard to find in any condition. The odds of finding another 370/12Byrd?!?!?....well, we think you can calculate those odds."

That's a special one alright. I wonder how much it would go for?

To coin a phrase, "Show me the money....."
I know what one of these should look like under the pickguard, and ANYONE looking to seriously purchase one should know what they are getting into.
The Bona-Fides from Rickenbacker would be the best way to authenticate it.
Granted, the guitar is very clean, but the bridge appears to have been worked on or replaced...where are the nuts? Also, it's the second one of these I've seen that has knobs like the one in the pics.

Likewise John. I'd like to see some shots under the pickguard too. I'd also like to see what's going on under that middle pick up?
'68 seems a little late from memory? I thought there were supposed to be a few sent to Wisconsin in '67 but my mind might be going?!?!

Given the serial number, would the factory be able to confirm that it left the factory with the Byrds mod?

Sold!..........not to me though. I think even if it's not a genuine byrd, it'll be a great guitar!!

Oh man, I'm actually going to that store today. Looks like I won't get to see it.

Then rest assured that it wasn't real by a long shot......1965 wrote:It's priced at $4500red_rob wrote:That's a special one alright. I wonder how much it would go for?

I know of at least one '68 that was authentic, but it was sent back for the retrofit....it was a 360/12 as new. Heck, my 'mule' 370/12 may have been one at one point, who knows....8mileshigh wrote:Likewise John. I'd like to see some shots under the pickguard too. Mule?! That was one of the best-sounding Rick 12's I've ever played, Lefty!
