1964 Rickenbacker 950 How rare ?

Post by vincent_gallo »

i just purchased a 1964 Rickenbacker 950 (two pickup 3/4 size). Fireglow-finish that came with a cool tiny silver case. i collect the basses and never noticed a 900 series built in the mid 60's. how rare are they ??

Hi, Vincent.

I'd have to say that while the 900/950 guitars are uncommon throughout the 60's, they do pop up from time to time....I have a Jetglow 1967 model myself, as well as a '61 950 4-string Tenor Guitar in Fireglow that is a one-off custom build (at least I've never seen another one...)

A very good friend of mine (who also is a member of the Forum) owns six 950s from 1961 to '67...

I love these little guitars, LOTS of sound available.

Hope this helps.... :)

I have a '63 900 MG, '64 1000 JG, '67 900 MG, '58 Combo 400, and '59(57?) 950 FG. They are very cool and underrated. they're less common than say, 450's, but not as rare as say, Capris. I assume it's a "Rick" and not an "Electro" right? I totally dig tulips.

I'd love to see a pic of the FG, Vince. Thanks for posting. A cool find.
