LOL. Yes, sorry I'm so anal. I hate that I am so detail-oriented at times, but it's helped me advance in my career. My work requires me to be that way. Having said that, I wouldn't hesitate to have you work on my guitars in the future, Paul. Hopefully my criticism came across as truly constructive, which could only lead to better and better restorations of these fine vintage instruments in the future.

You are right about nailing the burst from photos Paul. Each monitor renders photos differently. It's nearly impossible without computer-based color matching.

I am happy to see your honest and very detailed critique, Rod, so I see it as 100% constructive.

Since retiring as a design consultant a decade ago this month, I've been in the design education field. In September I begin my 30th semester. Every semester, I personally critique the work of dozens of my students, and twice a semester they confidentially critique my own performance as their teacher. So, I'm quite accustomed to being in both roles.

Thanks for both balance and detail. I learn from every project!

I love the shading and color of the Fireglo "burst" that Paul did on your guitar.

It reminds me of the original finish color/shading of my 1965 1993-12:

I actually like the variation in Fireglo over the years.

I know, my bad. :(

That photo was taken years ago, before the invention of the vacuum cleaner. The case is now cleaned up. I have to take a new photo. :D

The thing with Fireglo is that there really is no set "standard" of what it should be, since it changed every year, and these are now 45+ years old. The best you can do is find an example you like, print photos (eliminate monitor differences..) and send them along with the guitar for refin work. Bummer that it didn't play as nicely as you hoped when received, but glad that you have it sorted out now and from our perspective it looks great. 8)

Sorry man, no GAS intended! Just comparing FG shades - yours does have the appearance of a faded 60s original, at least by those photos! It is always hard to get the reds to photo well though.
