R-Tailpiece on 1965 360

Post by ethanrusso »

A few months back, I picked up a vintage one-owner 1965 360, reportedly with all original hardware. In considering a much-needed string change, I just noticed that there are 12 string slots in the R-tailpiece instead of 6. Is this actually a replacement part, or was the 12-slot used in all the models that year?

There are differences in the casting on the top of the R tailpiece that can authenticate it. The small pieces between the swirl and the R are rougher on the original tailpiece.

So does my '65 360/12.

I suppose that's because it's a 12.

In this case, 6 into 12 won't go.

Apologies to Judy Geeson.

The 12-slot TP was used on many 6-string models of that era. I have two 6ers from 1965/66 with 12-slot TPs.

Yes! Thanks, Ron et al. My tailpiece is rougher at the base of the R and squiggle than a modern 370, and the slots are differently shaped than moderns. It appears to be original equipment. I am grateful for the help.
Cheers!
