Looking for a 450 wiring schematic or control cavity photos

Post by bobbyemmett »

Hey folks, does anybody have a 450 schematic or photos of their 450 control cavity? I just purchased a 450 and I don't think it's wired correctly. I'll post pics later today.

THANKS!

This schematic is from the RIC website. It is for a 2-PU, 4 control harness with a 3-way switch. It should be close to what you are looking for:

here are some photos from the innards of both my 67 450 and 66 450-12 ... ignore if you can the routing someone did on the 450 in a failed attempt to add a middle pickup (gasp) ...

yeah it's bad ... thankfully the butcher mangled that and the pickguard but stopped short of destroying the electronics. I can replace the pickguard (and will) and the remaining damage will be hidden.

Hope these are of some use Bob.

At least he tried to be faithful to vintage Rickenbackers by using a forstner bit.

Here's the wiring on my 1999 450v63 JG:

Note the use of modern-era orange caps.

I don't have a corresponding picture for my 1981 460 BG, else I'd post it, too. :(

steven/gary

thanks for the pics!

steven - why is there an extra cap wired in to your guitar that's not the .047 's on the schematic ? it's the little turquoise one underneath the .047's..

gary- how do you like those caps in your guitar? this is the first rickenbacker i've owned, it obviously needs a set of .047 caps.. i don't care about getting a pair of ajax blue molded .047s right now (unless they sound the best) ..have you had any luck with any caps in particular?

I like for the 450, that all you have to do is take off the pickguard, and you've got full access to the guitar without the risk of damaging electronics.

I like them just fine! The 450v63 JG with its reissue toasters has a great jangly sound to it, more so than my 460 BG with its high-gains (although it, too, can be very jangly!).

ubdrum - what is that extra turquoise cap in the circuit for (the one under the .047s) ? i've seen that on a few 450's, but it's not in the schematic..
