is this nut original? 1967 360

Post by Sir Ricardo »

I've not seen a white nut before (black, yes) on a 60s 360. Did they use white nuts then?

Does this look original? It's on a 1967 360.

thanks in advance -

Richard

I say no. I have never seen a Rick nut that is shaped like that, not to mention the wrong color and, I think, material it is made from.

I have seen white nuts on Rick guitars starting in 1968, but not as thick as the one in your photos. The white nuts were also paired with the horizontal Made in USA on the TRC.

Some examples:
370 OS MG 68
370 OS MG 68
360 OS FG 69
360 OS FG 69

I've seen white nuts as early as late '66 and 1967, but inconsistent, they were a main feature by 1968, then back to black in '69.

I'd say no, for it isn't affixed to the guitar as it should be if it was factory.

From what I have seen, the standard nuts on 6-string models were white starting in 1968 through mid-1973, then back to black.

Examples:
381 FG 69
381 FG 69
370 FG 71
370 FG 71
480 MG 73
480 MG 73

I'm sure it didn't leave the factory with a gap like that.

Very true -- the nut on my 331 Lightshow is white, as are most that i've seen (which rarely were made after 1972). I have seen black on a few '69 Rics though, just have no photos that I can find.

Any comments on the shape/profile of this nut?
