Awesome pics! I have been drooling over this guitar since as a kid when I saw a "Hard Day's Night" on video. I always thought George's Ric had crushed pearl inlays and not plastic. You learn something everyday!

Wouldn't L be December?

Yes, "L" would be December. In 1963, however, "M" was used for December for some instruments. Five of them show up on the Register: http://www.rickresource.com/register/in ... 63&order=5

In addition to CM107, there are CM108 -- Mike Campbell's "625-12" -- two 4001s and a 365 in MG from a Japanese collection.

Why "M"? There is probably a very cogent explanation written down somewhere. I couldn't find it. One highly speculative guess (don't hit me, please) is as follows. If you review the arrangement of serial nos. and date codes for 1963 instruments on the Register list, it looks like the 3-digit number code was used in more or less chronological/sequential order during 1963, so CA001 would have been among the first batch of instruments issued in January 1963, etc. In November 1963 it appears CK999 was reached. Then there are a few CLs for December followed by two numerals, and also the CMs followed by three numerals.

Perhaps the CM designation was used to avoid confusion that might be caused by using the two-digit nos. with CL. Who knows? Just guessing here. In 1961 and 1962, the first two years RIck used the alpha date code system, the three-digit numbers didn't get to the 900 level (at least as reflected on the Register). In any event, it appears pretty well established that the CM's were December 1963 issues. It also appears that for the years after 1963 there are no "M"s for December.

So the CM date code is kind of special, and any CM-dated Rick is in very good company! :D

Many have been asking for more closeups of the "guards" to see if it is beveled...TRC too.

Recently asked.
Do you think George's 12 has beveled guards? The angle of Greg's shots isn't giving me the answer. What about the truss rod cover too?
What do you see in the pictures? Do all vintage pre 64 have bevels? I think , not.
