Late 50's Truss Rod Cover ... plexi and/or stamped metal?

Interested in a '58 450 (Action Guitar) and a '57 425 (PM Blues) and both have plexi truss rod covers. Are those plexi TRC's correct or replacements as there are same models in this period with stamped metal TRC's?

Is there a "guide" for which solid-body models had plexi and which had stamped metal TRC's (for this period of time)?

I am familiar with the '58 at Action, Black, right..? If it is the same one I'm thinking of it has two knobs and two switches....I think plexi is fine for that guitar if it is the same one I recall....

In the years prior to 1959 the possibility was there that anything may have happened when finishing out a guitar, for it was the beginning of 'standardization' for many of the models we know today....I can see why you would ask the question, though. While it is not absolute, most of the 425s and 450s I've seen up to late 1960 and possibly into early 1961 have the stamped-metal TRC.

I owned a '61 450 that had a gold TRC, but a white plastic guard, some they started in '61 and only for a short period.

PM Blues has a 450 JG 1958. Is that the one you are looking at? It's on the Register here: http://www.rickresource.com/register/vi ... p?id=24315

I think a plexi TRC would be correct for 1958; for '56 and '57 a non-stamped gold metal TRC would be correct.
