Hallo Rickenbacker Fans!

I just received a Rose Morris 1998 from 1964, Serial DA94, as such listed in the register. But if i use Rickenbacker serial number decoder it says invalid number! Could this be true? Is it normal with Rose Morris Rickenbackers?
the former user says, it might have had a refin, so which are the indicator signs of a refinish?

Thanks in advance!

Peter

Should be fine. The decoder may simply be having difficulty with such few digits, but it sounds correct. Look in the cavities (TRC especially) for evidence of refins.

Thanks Jason,

In the TRC cavity, there is evidence of refin, But i think just to cover a broken neck :( .
Otherwise the finish seems original. To have some color in the control cavity seems to be normal, does it?

Thanks

Peter

It is completely normal (and expected) to have color/finish in the control cavity and also the TRC cavity. These were painted without masking.

However, it appears there is color inside the soundhole of your guitar - is that correct? This would be the only indication of a refinish, in my opinion. A blacklight could tell you more clues, including any repaired areas.

Nice guitar, if it was indeed a Rose Morris model, it's an extremely early one (January '64).

Yes Collin, there is paint in the f hole.
Andreas from Rockwall Guitars says that it was repainted, But He is not shure.

Right, it is a very early example, But i am not quite sure If Every. Part of this guitar is original!
But the Most important thing is, that it is a great sounding guitar!

Greetings from germany!

By the way,
What does the painting inside the control cavity mean?

Thanks
Peter

Nice, now THAT is how you sell an instrument, folks. Overwhelming number of bright, hi-res images.

Looking at the photos here, it's clearly a refin. Plus when a dealer tells you it's refinished - you can guarantee that's true.

The painting or the writing? All of these guitars were painted without masking inside the control cavity, only masking inside the soundhole.

The writing/markings inside the soundhole are just internal production notes. Just an assumption, but I think different employees would notate inside the control cavity once the guitar passed through each work station, or include initials. There is usually a model designation "345S, etc." that doesn't always match the final model build.

Many times there will also be names inside pickup cavities and under the TRC.
